What are you getting/did you get for LO for his/her first birthday? We'll probably get him some clothes and some books, but I'd like to get him at least one "quality" toy. I'm thinking something wooden that will last him a long time (and that isn't so babyish that he'll only be interested in it for a few months.) Any suggestions? Bonus points if you include links to where I can buy it!
Re: First birthday gift ideas
wooden puzzles my almost 3 year old still plays with them. i love almost anything melissa and doug. I think a kitchen set with some food would be great too.
My son's biggest gift was his Radio Flyer Wagon. It is for 18 months or older, but it was something that he eventually grew into. https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2266708
And at the end of his birthday, we put him in it and took him outside and took pictures. He is 1 years old in this pictures, so he does not have a lot of expressions.

As well, my son really liked Chuck & Friends Trucks and Disney Pixar Cars.

He is 2 years old, and he tucks in his Chuck & Friends trucks to bed like a stuffed animal.
I don't think we're getting DD anything. We are having a big party with all of our friends and family and DH and I are also taking the day off of work on her actual birthday so we can be with her. I just think she's going to get so much stuff from everyone.
Do you guys think that's weird? Even for Christmas we only got her like a couple of books and one toy. We didn't go crazy. We buy her stuff all the time so it just seems silly to us to buy and hide it until her birthday rather than just give it to her. As she gets older we will buy her a birthday gift from us to giver her on her actual birthday.
not weird at all. That is how we do things too. We started doing bigger gifts when DS turned three. So DD will probably get some cake and balloons from us and a few gifts from her grandparents.
I don't think that's silly. We got DD a hug-a-planet and that's pretty much it. She'll get plenty from others and since we're moving in June, I don't want to buy a ton of stuff to move.

PP, we bought DD an activity cube for Christmas and she LOVES it. It is good quality and I think she'll like it for several years.

We got this wagon as a Christmas present from Grandma, if you're looking for a wagon! It's quite beautiful:

For his birthday, I want to get LO a sand and water table. They come in a variety of sizes and $$. Here's an example:

We're also asking grandparents for a season pass to the Children's Museum.
Swing set, infant swing and maybe a small sandbox.

DS already has a ton of things that are more for older babies and toddlers, plus we're more focused on the party, so we probably won't get him much.
I'm sure he's going to get more than enough of clothes and toys for his birthday from family lol. I've already gotten him a rocking horse and chair and they are both for when he's a little older (:
I really want to get him a toy box/book shelf in one, but he wouldn't be too interested in that anyway!
I want to get her the little tikes garden house. I've also thought about a lot of what's already been mentioned: wagon, trike, sand box...

Lurking from 6-9...but my DS is almost four...so I wanted to weigh in...
For his first bday, favorites are/were:
Water table - highly recommend also getting some cheap $1 target aisle boats and stuff to add to it. The more "bath" toys the better for this. Also needs to have something that they can dump water out of.
Push Toys - like a lawnmower, grocery cart, whatever. LOVE it at that age.
My DS also loved a bubble machine.
