It doesn't seem like it right how, but 1 in 70 is still really good odds. Have you considered having the materniT21 test instead of amnio? It is a simple blood test and does not have the chance of miscarriage like an amnio does. It works by isolating fetal DNA that is circulating in maternal blood. The total cost to you is a little over 200 even if your insurance doesn't cover the rest.

This.  I second the MaterniT21 test prior to the amnio.  Prayers everything turns out well.

  • I came back with 1:85 chance of Down's this past December. I decided to do the Harmony test which is the Materni 21 test instead of the amnio. I got my results back in a little over a week. Prayers that all will work out. Babies are some tricky little things, they like to mess with our blood levels. So please stay calm.

  • During my first pregnancy I was the same after quad screen. Then thd anatomy scan was clean.

This time, my anatomy scan had me at a high risk for trisomy 18. I took the Verifi blood test and that cams back negative. Such an easy way to get results without an invasive diagnostic test.
  • I recently had a scare because we found out my baby has a single umbilical artery (instead of the normal two). With that around 75% of babies have no issues and around 25% have other abnormalities. I just had to keep reminding myself that although the odds were 1 in 4 that something was wrong that 3 in 4 was way higher that something wasn't wrong. We had our level 2 ultrasound today and everything looked great.

  • My chances were 1 in 200, which is the cutoff. We decided to move fwd with the anatomy scan to see if any other Downs markers were present - if they were we we're going to do the amnio; if there were no downs markers we were doing the maternit-21 blood test. We had no markers, did the blood test, and got the clear bill of health for our lil man. It cost $240 out of pocket for us but it was worth it cause of all the stress I was going through with the amnio issue.
  • That means there is 98% chance healthy!
  • We skipped all of the first trimester screenings and went for just the MaterniT21 test.  Ours came back positive for Down Syndrome about a week later.  We decided the test was accurate enough for us to accept the results and plan for a baby with DS.  If by some freaky chance the results are a false positive......that's not a bad surprise really.

I'm getting excited to see if this LO really does look as much like dh as the ultrasound images suggest.

We also declined to have the quad screening done, then at our u they noticed some soft markers...club foot, gap in heart ventricle, cyst on brain and clenched fists. We then went to see a genetics specialist and they confirmed these issues. Then it was off to the cardiologist and the heart issues are worse than originally thought! :( My son will need open heart surgery at some point between birth and 6 months. Plus they still there there is a good chance he may have DS or trisomy 13 or 18. I took the harmony test last Thursday. So that is where we are at. So scary, never thought we would have to worry about any of this!
