Not finding out sex...any ideas for gender neutral showers and nurseries?!?

I have some ideas but would love suggestions!

Re: Not finding out sex...any ideas for gender neutral showers and nurseries?!?

  • If you really want a theme, there are lots of them. Jungle, circus, ocean/fish, outer space, etc. I don't think that's really necessary though. I think the nicest looking nurseries are the ones that are well decorated, not the A-Bottle-of-Pepto-Exploded-in-Here-Holy-Sh!t-It's-Pink ones, or the TONKA TRUCK MASCULINE GRRRRRRR ones. I actually prefer stuff that is modern, clean and neutral.

  • Hellooooo - welcome to the June Board. Have you looked on the BRU site? They have a whole section just for gender neutral themes that might give you some good ideas. FWIW, my nursery is green and brown so I guess that's neutral.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • A gender neutral nursery isn't very hard. As long as you don't involve pink. I'm having a boy, but our colors are green and brown, which like the other poster stated is very neutral. Neutral showers are easy too, again as long as no pink is involved. Etsy has a million baby shower themes. Plus your theme doesn't really have to have anything to do with the sex of your baby. i.e. winnie the pooh, elephants, etc.

  • We did green walls and white trim.  18 months later and I still love it!  The bedding was green, white and a little brown with silhouettes of white bunnies.  Super cute.

I'm very glad we went neutral so I can reuse the nursery bedding for #2, since we'll be moving the crib to this baby's room.

ETA: the "theme" was called "bunny meadow" if you want to google it.  I wouldn't recommend the bedding (it was expensive and the quilt is kinda scratchy, not that we even use it in the crib), but the accessories are cute and there are a lot of custom accessories available on Etsy for this theme.

  • My cousin was team green and went with the Pea in a Pod Theme for her Shower, very natural and well done.  It was so cute.

  • We are doing the same. Because it's twins we are doing a Yellow and Brown Honey Bee theme. We are also doing the gender reveal at our baby shower.

"What will they Bee?!" is our theme ;)

  • I like the idea of a bumble bee shower... "what will baby bee" etc. lol

  • I don't have any specific ideas since my brain is turned off at the moment, but I love https://projectnursery.com/ for looking at nurseries and showers. You can even search by gender neutral.

  • I am having a boy and doing navy blue, red and brown; I think red and brown is pretty neutral and I've noticed that it's pretty popular.I have a one year old girl who I wanted to do red for but ended up doing hot pink and black; now I regret it because I could have used her stuff for this one (carseat, swing, etc). Since you don't know the sex, I would do a diaper party and maybe sell squares (like Superbowl squares) for the date/time/weight of the baby; the winner can split the pot with the baby so you can have some extra money to buy gifts of your choice once the baby arrives. I sold squares for my last baby; great turnout of about$300 and people just think its so fun.

  • If you're not finding out if you're having a girl or a boy (or considering not finding out), there's a website you should know about called NotFindingOut.  It's an online baby registry that caters specifically to parents who are waiting for the delivery room surprise.  All of Not Finding Out's products are paired into girl and boy complements, so you register for a specific item, you just don't know if you're receiving the girl or boy version of that item. Not Finding Out also carries a lot of gender neutral items so you can register for gender neutral items AND gender specific stuff.  If someone buys a gift for you before the baby is born, you will receive a beautifully wrapped Preview Card showing both the girl and boy version of the item they bought instead of the gift itself (since receiving the gender specific gift would spoil the surprise!).  As soon as your baby is born, your gender specific gifts are shipped straight to you. Very fun!!!
