Baby Names

Hannah

Is the Hannah fad over with?

I know when I was pregnant with DS Hannah Elizabeth was our girl choice, but Hannah was also very popular at the time.  DH is still voting for Hannah this go round.

Re: Hannah

  • I don't think Hannah is super popular at all.  I know two Hannah's and one is 35 and the other 20.  I think it's a lovely name.

  • I love Hannah. I know it's high on the SSA list but I honestly know no children named this.

  • We own two coffeeshops in Seattle and there are indeed a lot of Hannah's - but still it's not quite Emily :) And Nameberry's stats cut off at 2011 - I like this as another good place to look other than Social Security.... https://nameberry.com/babyname/Hannah

It's a very pretty name in any case! If I were in your shoes I'd be ok to use it.

  • What a great name!  I also feel like it isn't as popular as it said to be.  I only know 1.

  • Hannah was our number one choice for ages until DH went to work for Hanna Instruments (and he HATES it there)

  • My name is Hanna! I'm 23 and I don't remember there being a lot of other kids with the same name (including Hannah). And I think it's faded from being trendy for sure. I don't know many kids under age 8 or so named Hannah.
  • I really like the name Hannah. I have only known 1 IRL and she is my age.
  • I think Hannah is still very acceptable.  It's a classic name that was once more popular, but I don't think it was a fad the way some names are.

  • I think Hannah Elizabeth is a great choice. I don't know any Hannah's
  • Good name and it has seemed to drop a little in popularity!
  • I like Hannah and don't think it is overdone

  • I don't think Hannah is popular either, at least it's not in my area. I've only ever met one Hannah and she's 35.
  • I absolutely love the name Hannah and have ever since I was a little girl. If I ever have a girl, I will absolutely name her this and I don't care how popular it is!

  • It's popular, but I think it's got a classic appeal. Also, it's a palindrome-- same spelled forwards and backwards-- so I think that makes it extra special. :)

  • DD is named Hannah. Even though it's higher up in the ranks, it's not like hundreds of thousands of people get that name every year.

We live in Illinois--her name was #31 in the state in 2011 when she was born. There are only 246 other girls named Hannah in Illinois that year...so it might be popular, but there aren't tons of people with that name.
