Trying not to stress about 1st doctor's appointment

Hi all!  Husband and I found out I was pregnant about a week ago (that puts me around 5 weeks right now and around 6 for my first ob gyn appointment next week). We haven't really told anyone yet and want to wait until somewhere around 8-13 weeks.  We're both really happy about this and just started trying earlier this month and I was amazed at how easy it was for me, since we've been together over 10 years.

Anyway,I guess when I first found out I wasn't that surprised - I had some vomiting/nausea (I think the vomiting might have actually been a stomach bug though - there were some other side effects that suggest maybe I just ate something bad), breast tenderness, and a little bit of spotting.  Now pretty much all of those symptoms have gone away.  I have some others that might relate (peeing a lot, fatigue, moodiness) but I feel like that could just be from drinking tons of water, not drinking caffeine or alcohol, and worry.  I guess I just don't feel "different" like I thought I would!  I know most people will tell me to be happy I don't have morning sickness etc but it still worries me.

I know we're incredibly fortunate to have even gotten this far so early on in our attempts...I know a lot of you on this board have been through a lot, as have a lot of our friends.  I think knowing of all the potential complications is just making me freak out more.   I just don't know what to do with myself, and I tend to be a major worrier anyway!  I know it's not good for the baby.  How did you pass the time before your first appointment?

Hi! :)  Congrats on the pregnancy!!!! :))

Like you, I haven't experienced much of the classic pregnancy symptoms yet!  I am having breast tenderness, maybe some fatigue, but not much else!  I too was worried but I went in a few days ago for the first U/S and they found a healthy heartbeat at 6 weeks and 4 days :)  I suppose we should feel lucky to not be experiencing the nausea yet?  Try not to stress, the days will pass so quickly! :)

I had a stomach bug as well at 4 weeks. But besides being a little tired and a little breast tenderness, I don't feel pregnant at all! It is a little scary, like you feel something is wrong. But worrying wont change anything. And chances are, everything is fine! The "pregnant feeling" will come with time. Best of luck.

I feel you.  I'm about 11 weeks along and my first apt in Monday...  I have had VERY minimal symptoms...  And I started spotting (just brown) yesterday but I'm thinking that had something to do with sex... still is making stress though.

Congrats on your BFP and relax! I feel your anxiety though...the wait is NOT easy! Especially b/c I'm filled with doubt too.  The I'm almost 7 weeks and the only symptoms I have had is fatigue, sore boobies, and greasy hair! Maybe we'll be one of the lucky ones and not have any m/s?! Time will tell.  Our appt is next Friday at 8 weeks.  DH & I can't wait...that will def make us feel more confident in this pregnancy.  Stay positive, take care of yourself and relax! GL

The nausea might come roaring back tomorrow. Try not to stress.  The wait sucks, but the time will pass.  Chances are you won't get much information at your first appt either. The 1st tri is hard.

Ditto that- symptoms will come and go and symptom-less does not mean the pregnancy is in trouble!

With DS, I had one week where my boobs hurt... that's it. No nausea, no aversions- other than some bloating... nada. On this board back then I often had to remind people that no symptoms did not mean bad pregnancy because everyone equates it to the higher the HCG, the better the pregnancy and the more symptoms.

He was very healthy 9s on Apgars and all.

It's more how your body deals with those hormones.

Have you asked what happens at your first appt? Most places seem to just do paperwork the first appt, then the second one is when you get the heartbeat and physical and bloodwork done.

For me because I'm so far along I get a little more done the first appointment. Guess there's the upside to not realizing you're pregnant til kinda late.  :-/

how far along are you? Some doctors do it all in one, others split them up, but I still didn't have my first appt until 10 weeks, and my physical appt was just last week at 11 weeks. Which is normal :)

I'm at about 11 weeks.  Monday I think will count as 12.  I can't remember the exact day of my last period... So I just had to go by a week.  I feel like the days are just dragging... and that I'm getting more and more paranoid.  Wish the spotting would stop, calm my nerves a little bit.

Thanks for asking this question - it prompted me to call the doctor's office today!  I was told that they would do a urine test and a blood test.  The receptionist also said that they'd most likely do a vaginal ultrasound around the 9th week.
