Vegas Bumpies, need advice

My husband is possibly going to end up with a job in Vegas and so we may end up moving. I don't do big cities well so would prefer a suburb, any advice on safer, nicer suburbs that aren't incredibly expensive to live in? Or have a small-town feel? Thanks!
