BG newborns?

I love my 4.0's on dd, they've worked so well. But we didn't start cding her until 4 months, so we don't have a newborn stash. Now that I'm expecting #2, I've been eyeing the BG newborns, but I have big babies. Dd was 9 lbs 3 oz. Would it be worth it for me to buy any newborn diapers or should I just use sposies until he/she fits into my OS stash? I've looked at prefolds, but I would prefer to have a decent stash of AIO or pockets since my mom takes care of the kid(s) quite often, and I know dh would prefer them. So when do the BG newborns really stop fitting? I know the size chart says 6-12 lbs, but we all know those are usually kind of arbitrary.

  • If you want a good NB stash that will last until OS then look into Swaddlebee Simplex NB. I had gotten BG NB, Grovia NB, Lil Joey's, Fuzzibunz XS, and Swaddlebee Simplex NB for my little man. He is 1 month tomorrow and has outgrown the absorbency of the BG's, Grovia's leak, and he is almost outgrown the absorbency of the Lil Joeys (these were my favorite for fit and poop though). The Swaddlebee's are the only ones that have been consistently amazing.

  • I loved my BG newborns. They fit my girls until they were about 12 lbs, which for us was 9 weeks. Because I had bought mine on sale, I was able to sell them for about what I paid, which means it was way more cost effective than disposables would have been. You can get a good deal on them right now because Cotton Babies is having a seconds sale, which puts them at $7.50 per diaper. I liked them, though they were beginning to outgrow the absorbency and have leaks by the time I switched them into their OS pockets. If you consider the resale value, it's probably about equal to what you'd spend in sposies in that amount of time, depending on brand.

  • My baby was almost 8.5 lbs and really long at birth. She outgrew the BG NB AIO's when she was about 8 weeks - going on 11.5 lbs. I liked that they were trim on her and I used them when I was on the go, but I found they tended to leak when she got past 1 month. Sometimes they contained poo blowouts, sometimes not. I actually had better luck with my GroVia NB - the leg gussets really held everything in better.
  • Also, my absolute faves for the NB stage were Kissaluv fitteds with a NB cover (covers with an inner leg gusset were the best). My mom loved them, and with a little explaining, my DH got the hang of them too. I also used prefolds for NBs but the fitteds never leaked and were very trim around those tiny legs.
  • I'm probably going to go for Alva newborn pockets with aplix to round out my mostly fitted nb stash. They'll look bulkier than a sized diaper, but last a lot longer.
