Parenting after a Loss

Anatomy

DD is mostly potty-trained now, and while it's nice to be a 1-diaper household, we are dealing with a newfound interest in the nether bits. She came up with a creative description the other day, but one I'd rather not promulgate to the outside world. So it looks like I'll have to be the parent and give the child some actual information.

I've always said (before I had kids, ha) that I'd give accurate answers to difficult questions. However, this is a kid who can't always keep track of the difference between her fingers and her thumb. So, realizing this is hard to answer without lots of asterisks, what level of detail do I give her? Let's say "1" is complete nonsense and "5" is a reference to anatomical drawings.

Re: Anatomy

  • At this age I tell her it's a vagina and those are her girl parts, just like mommy has. There's no way I'm going to try to explain the different actual parts to a 2 year old. I'll get more detailed as she gets older.

If it makes you feel any better, I had to tell her to not stick a bath crayon up there the other night in the tub....

We will also go with the same description.

And omg omg...[regarding the bath crayon] lol, my older child is a boy, and I'd have to say I'm nervous about dealing with all the girly craziness! And the above mentioned event wasn't even on my list of frightening possibilities!

I'd tell you, but the interwebz never forget! And, Sonadora, I cracked up about the bath crayon. Too funny. I think we had a puzzle piece in the vicinity the other day, but thank goodness nothing came of that.

Well, thankfully it didn't make it up there, it was just headed that direction. Sigh.
