We are painting our daughters crib to be re-used in this baby's room. My designer friend assures me that it is perfectly safe to do but I worry about the baby teething on the crib. I know of one company that makes "nursery paint" but they don't make black which is what we are planning on painting the crib. Any ideas of what paint to use, brands etc?

I would use something that is zero-VOC to reduce fumes and toxicity. Most of the major paint brands (Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr, etc.) make a low- or zero-VOC paint.
