I'm a chicken.....

I'm a total chicken. As I've sad before I am a delivery driver... I just called in to work because I don't want to walk on ice... What? Where have my Minnesota kahonas gone?! I'm just way too scared after this ice storm to walk on all this ice at 37.5 weeks. My SO works with me and is covering my shift but work is still short his shift now. I've never called in for a more stupid sounding thing ever, but I feel my concern is legitimate. It took me four minutes to walk across my parking lot and back to start my car. You can look down and see a good solid 1cm or more or ice coating the street! Nope, not risking falling on that, but gosh I feel like a turd.

I'm holed up in my apartment today, too.  I'm in NY area... Roads look ok, but I'm more worried about slipping on the sidewalks :(. Im 37 +5, with lots of early labor signs, so I,had wanted to go to the grocery store and walk a bit. I'm just too worried about being a klutz.

Yup, I'm worried about the walking too not so much the roads! The highway looks fine (it's right outside my window >.<) but the sidewalks/side roads looks terrifying! I wanted to do stuff today too!!!

My husband suggested walking up and down our hallway. Sounds like a blast. Luckily he offered to stop on the way home and get the one item I actually really need from the store...  Laundry day it is!

I finished the nursery and the laundry yesterday and deep cleaned the house Saturday! I'm like out of things to do lol. I wanted to work its the like only place I go anymore! Hopefully your productive day goes well mama to be!

  • You were smart to do so! I'm hearing on the news that they have closed the schools in a local city (Hamilton/Ontario) due to ice, but it's really just slush. For a normal person I would laugh at that, but being preg in this weather, I wouldn't do it either!!

All of the schools, most of the churches, and a good chunk of the community activites are cancelled do to the ice here. They said they are using like 3 or 4 times as much salt as they would for a normal snow storm and still not keeping up!

  • I'm a chicken, too. We're having some snow here in CT today, but maybe an inch at most where I am. There's supposed to be sleet and freezing rain later on, so I decided to work at home today rather than risk going to the office. I know I'd be fine with my AWD, but I really didn't want to take the risk just in case.

  • Don't feel bad at all! I didn't call in when we had an ice storm when I was expecting DD#1, and even though the stairs were completely cleared-- I worked at a hotel so they had to be-- I still fell down an entire flight of stairs and landed in the pavement parking lot on my belly at 37 wks.

OMG that must have been horrifying! I'm glad things turned out okay (assuming a lot here but since DD1 and you are both still with us I'm guessing it turned out okay). You poor mama!!I feel much more justified at this point.
