Trouble TTC

Neg blood test, possibly still pregnant?

Hi everyone! I have an odd question and maybe someone on here could help? We have been TTC for a awhile now and its just not happening for us the second time around. Luckily I have always had great 28/29 day cycles and never missed a period in my life. I happened to have my annual PAP smear a day after AF was due. Since she didnt show, my OB did a blood test to see if I were pregnant. It came back negative. She wants me to go back in next week in AF doesnt show for another test.
Could it be just too early to take any sort of test? Or should a blood test have been able to pick up any amount of HCG? Im just not sure why she wants another test if it showed negative.
TIA!

Re: Neg blood test, possibly still pregnant?

  • You probably ovulated later than normal, which is why your period is "later" than normal.

My recommendation is to try charting your BBT.  It confirms ovulation and you won't have to play the "where is my period?" guessing game anymore.  Check out fertilityfriend.com.

Also there is no need to see your doctor next week for another test (actually there was no need for the first test either).  Unnecessary medical tests/procedures drives up the cost of health care.  The rule of thumb if your period is "late" is to test once a week until you either get your period, a + test, or hit 60 days with no period.  If you hit 60 days, then call your doc and he/she can prescribe something to jumpstart your next cycle.

Also I am not sure how long "awhile" is, but this board is for women who have been TTC for a year (6 months if over 35) or have a diagnosed IF issue.  If you do not meet this criteria, you should probably be posting on TTGP.  If you do, you may want to post an intro. Also most women include info on their IF diagnosis in their siggy, which makes it easier for us to answer some of your questions.

WTF about your situation is "Trouble Trying to Conceive?" You have a 1 year old and your period is 1 day late? Super lame, OP.

And I missed the ticker.  OP this is not the board for you.
