So Frusrated! Pump related

I have been trying to get a pump.  My insurnace has ONE DME provider that carries breast pumps, that would be Edgepark, the one that isn't taking orders for pumps until APRIL. They also refuse to let me go out of network.  So what am I supposed to do?  Pay for it out of pocket they tell me.  Okay so ACA has made our insurance rates go up, we are paying for insurance, and I can't even USE it for what it is now supposed to cover!?  Excuse me?  This is the loophole?  Make it impossible to get a pump so they don't have to deal with it?

Re: So Frusrated! Pump related

  • wow that is really upsetting! Edgepark in one of my approved dme providers as well... ugh is there any way you could rent one from the hospital in the mean time? I know my insurance will cover a temporary rental and then pay for the pump 100% up until 90days from babys birth.
  • Maybe this is just me, but I'm on baby 3 and have never used a pump. I've always just hand expressed. You could try that till April as well?

  • unfortunately I have struggled with supply issues and a pump has been a really important tool for me and I have to start a stash of milk pretty early to go back to work.

  • You may want to reach back out to Edgepark- I work for a LARGE insurance company and Edgepark advised us that the have 5,000 pumps in stock eff 1/22/13  with 5,000 more being delivered by the end of the week and an additional 10,000 by months end- I would reach out again.  My own plan will NOT cover pre-purchase, only after the baby is born so I am stressing as well since my baby will be in the Nicu for some time after birth but I am going to rent until my pump comes.  Def look into that as well.

This is interesting information. I was just on Edgeparks website yesterday and it showed pumps today that same link said they were having a shortage. I wonder whats going on it's the same thing with two other DME providers I looked into, yesterday they were available today they are out of stock. I dunno bout OP but I'll be on the phone with them first thing in the morning!

  • Yeah I have signed up with edgepark to be emailed, I tried calling today and was given the same "shortage" message.   I know what pump i want too which is making it difficult.  I did not have good results with my Medela or Ameda with my other two, had wonderful luck with Hygeia which is adding to the difficulty.
