If I am playing on my PS3 and he wants to play too, but I am in the middle of an important rivalry game in my NCAA 13 dynasty league.... I'll give him a controller without powering it on and let him "help" me win the game.

My DH does this with DD on his XBox (her controller has no batteries in it) and she thinks it's great fun to play the game with Daddy. He is careful to watch her hands every few minuites and mimick her moves so that she thinks she's the one controlling the game.
Haha I could see MH doing this. I wouldn't think it would work for that long though. My niece is 5 and I'm pretty sure she would know whether she was actually doing anything or not with her controller. Maybe not though.
Playing football helps because there are 22 guys on the field. He usually picks a team color of whomever is playing... and when the ball is snapped, he just moves buttons around anyway and the whole team is moving. So he thinks he is moving all of them.
But playing an RPG/shooter type game wouldn't work I think because you control one character on the screen so he may be honed in one that one character and wondering why his button controls don't work.
These days when he wants to play- I just put Gran Turismo 5 on, let him pick a car he likes, turn on all of the assists, and let him drive around like a mad man on various race tracks.

It's really obvious once they realize the light on the controller isn't on. I don't remember when it didn't work with DS b/c he only did it a couple of times. Around 3 maybe?
Re: DH just sent this to me
HAHA. Is that really him? And your kids?
GENIUS IDEA!
No, not us. He found it online. He wants to replicate it though!
haha I do this to my nephew.

I wonder at what age this stops working?
I think this matters a lot.
