Official diagnosis ;)

Yesterday we took LO to the pediatrician for his 1 month appointment. His constant crying was officially diagnosed as "Fussy Infant". There's even a code for it: 780.91. Wow, thanks Doc - I think I could have diagnosed that myself. HA! ;) (It's not colic because he can be consoled through nursing and colic is considered "inconsolable".)

  • "Treatments" include running a vacuum in his closet while he naps, not making too much eye contact with him, and nurse on demand since it soothes him. Haven't tried the vacuum yet, but the not making eye contact makes me sad because he's so stinking cute. Doc thinks he is easily overstimulated and the eye contact increases the stimulation.

  • I know the feeling! My pedi put a diagnosis in the computer of "happy spitter" when I told her DD was spitting up more but it didn't seem to upset her.

Both of my LOs sleep better with noise in the background. It's a lifesaver for them to get used to the noise because then they won't wake up later on when the crazy dog is barking at the mailman. *Cough* Ha.

We use a clock radio and just put it on white noise. LO1 sleeps like a champ with it!

I had that with both my older girls. I remember with DD1, the ped said, "The only problem you have is a laundry problem!"

  • My DS sounds a lot like yours. There is little I can do to make him happy while he is awake except nurse him or let him use my nipple as a pacifier. I keep thinking colic, but since he can be calmed by nursing....

DS will sleep to the hair dryer running, but what about when he's awake? I actually broke down in tears while he was happy for 10 minutes this afternoon because that is what I'm missing out on the other 8 - 10 hours of the day that he is awake and either nursing or crying.
