Cloth Diapering

Is thrush a problem?

Pretty sure LO and I have thrush.  Is this a CD problem?  I had heard that if you get yeast in your diapers it can be a problem -- do I need to worry or do anything right now?  Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Re: Is thrush a problem?

  • It is a problem because it can keep reinfecting your LO who will in turn pass it back to you. Some people use sposies while they treat it. If you want to keep using cloth, wash all of your diapers in bleach, and buy some GSE to use every time you wash your diapers after this.

  • Well that's no fun.  Thanks for the help.

Is GSE easy to find?  Also, just to confirm, that is grapefruit seed extract, correct?  How much do you use?

  • I never actually used it. When we had yeast was before I'd really seen a lot of information on it, so we just bleached pretty frequently and used nystatin with fleece liners. I'm pretty sure people use 15-20 drops in the wash? And yes, it's grapefruit seed extract.

  • I have heard white vinegar in the wash will also kill the yeast

On a cloth blog the blogger recommended this recipie for getting rid of yeast in diapers....

    10 drops of GSE
10 drops of TTO tea tree oil
1 fourth cup of chlorine bleach

Rinse a LOT to make sure you get all the GSE and TTO out. You can get GSE at natural stores like the Vitamin shop or whole foods. You can get tto at GNC. TTO is also good to use in cloth wipe solution.
