Pretty crappy day vent...

Well the day started off pretty well as I did some grocery shopping and such and came home got my dance 4 on and was about to start cleaning when I got a migraine. (YAY) Then I got a text message from my bank saying I had a large withdrawal. So I look at my online banking and there is a 275 dollar charge from directtv on my account. I canceled the service the end of December and got the box just before the 2nd week of this month to return the receivers. Well amongst all the packing I forgot the box was sitting there to send the receivers back. We are talking about a period of 2 weeks here and yep they charged me for them. So after taking the box to the post office I called to talk to the rep to see how long it would be before they would credit the money back. The rep was a total asshat and tried to sell me the service back. I explained to him my husband has the service at his current location which is why I was not transferring but thank you. So he continues that I am eligible for discounts as low as 29.95 under my name that my husband would not be eligible for blah blah blah. Ok, one I just explained to you my husband has established service there WHY ARE YOU STILL TRYING TO SELL ME THE SERVICE. At this point I get angry because this has NOTHING to do with why I am calling and this putz can't just answer my question. I finally tell him I don't need 2 services so he transfers me to another department where I have to reverify everything again only to find out that it takes 30 days for the money to come back to me. WTF!! You mean to tell me you are going to get this stupid box back in probably the next 3 days by the end of the week actually but you aren't going to issue the credit for the almost 300 dollars for 30 days!! I am totally done with direct tv, they are overpriced to begin with and I told my husband when I get there we will be canceling his as well as I don't want anything to do with that company ever again. Lucky for me I am not hurting for any money otherwise I would have been screwed. They don't send you any type of reminder either to say hey we haven't received the receiver back yet. So frustrated I just want to cry.

  • I'm sorry :-( Your description of the moronic guy from DirectTV made me giggle a bit, though. I have gone round and round with idiots like him, too. I hope they credit your account much sooner than 30 days and that tomorrow is better!

I get it they have a job to sell and all but if I say I have established service with my husband WITH you company at a different location and you STILL try to sell it to me, yea I kind of have a problem.

  • I highly dislike directv! They over charge!

    Got a story for ya....

We once had comcast cable in our area. A few months after we cancelled, this man came to our door. He said he was from Comcast, he had a ID tag on & paperwork, and a list of other peoples names. He said that he was driving around the area collecting past due cable boxes (we were late turning ours in), for the company. Well, my husband took the box outside to him. He had his trunk full of other boxes.

Well we got a letter several months later saying they were going to charge us for our box we didn't return. Sooooo yeah, he was def running a scam! Not sure how he had our address and knew our box was overdue to be returned! Hard telling how many people he ripped off!

  • Playing devil's advocate here, but is it possible that they could have a standard billing time where they do all of this type stuff? (Whether it's debiting or crediting.)

Regardless of that, the guy trying to sell to you is extremely annoying. I seriously hate that sh*t.

It is possible, and I might not be too irritated if that time had been explained to me i.e. you have x amount of days to return before you are charged but I was on the phone with the rep that canceled my account for a good while but that was never mentioned. If you give me a time and I don't meet that then fine its totally my fault and I have no reason to be mad but they guy never said anything about that.

  • I get how you feel. I HATE Directv.  We live out in the country and cable is not an option, so we are stuck for awhile, sigh.  Sorry, it's amazing how one experience with idiots can ruin a whole day.

There is no other option here on post. But if you live just off post then you have options. Pretty sucky.

Not gonna lie we actually liked directv here. My parents had major issues with dish network and them practically refusing to cancel their plan but we had no issues with directv. When we cancelled, just cutting back, we had no issues and they told us we had x many days to return everything and the box came with directions stating how many days again. I was worried it wouldn't make it on time with mail delivery so I mailed it next day, paranoid much, lol.

Sorry you had a bad experience!
