Babies: 9 - 12 Months

can't get lo to eat or drink anything

A has bronchiolitis and has had a hard time eating and drinking the last few days.  the last time he actually managed to keep anything down was 4am this morning.  He saw the doc today and they said he was not dehydrated because there is a teency bit of urine in his diaper. (4 wet diapers in 24 hrs and I  talking you cwould barely tell there was a trace of yellow.  He refuses to drink most of the time but if he does decide to drink he throws it up.  the doc said not to take him to the er unless he goes 18 hrs with no wet diaper.  I think that kind of long...they also said the temp isn't a problem unless it gets to 105 rectal temp. I just feel like if he gets to those points it's going to be way too dangerous.  but at what point do I take him without being an over paranoid mom or wasting a trip to the hospital for them to do nothing?  I'm a bit obe r worried for him because he is not the greatest eater to begin with, and he has actually been vomiting for about 2 weeks.  He also has cerebral palsy so some of his eating issues could be related to that.  I guess I just need some other mom input because I'm worrying myself ssick and dh just doesn't understand.

  • wow, that does not sound like a good time! i have no experience with fevers or not eating but heres my two cents. if your worried take him in. who cares if they think your paranoid? imagine how you would feel if something happened because you didn't take him in.

  • I would say if you are that concerned I would go to the er. If nothing else it will give you peace of mind to know your little one is really ok. I'm so sorry your baby is so sick. I don't think you are being paranoid and no dr would either. Have you tried small amounts of pedi light? You could use a syringe and give just a few ml at a time and see how that sits in his tummy.
  • Use a syringe, give 10 ml every 15 minutes until you feel like he's got enough. Rinse and repeat as needed. If you can't do that, I would take him in. IV fluids is the next step, likely.
