So I think it was you in a go green check in who said that your wool balls didn't work with the essential oils to make your laundry smell nice and I was having the same problem. In fact, J just complained about our towels not smelling nice anymore. I've got a possible solution that I'm going to try -- scent infused water that I can keep in a spray bottle and spritz into my laundry. I found this link about someone using it as a natural room freshener: https://www.theyummylife.com/Natural_Room_Scents
I'll update with how it works for me after grocery shopping when I can try it out and spritz some into the clothes in the dryer.

Re: MK
I'm not totally sure? My current machine is an old workhorse that was handed down to me by my mom, and the bobbins that work with it are slightly rounded. I had another sewing machine for a while that I ended up returning, and the bobbins with that were definitely flat. My current bobbins are not completely flat, so I would say they're rounded, although then again my old bobbins worked in my new machine.
I don't really know!!

Hmm. Well all I know is that any time I use any other bobbins in my machine the tension gets totally messed up and loopy. This is one of the reasons why I am in the market for a new machine, ha.

Well the results of my first test were inconclusive. I made a solution of lemon, rosemary and vanilla. I used far too much rosemary.
Anyways I boiled then simmered it for like a half hour or an hour or something. I strained it through a coffee filter and at this point it was like a brownish yellow color, so I was kind of wary about testing it on A's clothes, which were the ones next up to go into the dryer. Instead I put it into a random spray bottle and sprayed some generously on my towel (what J had said smelled bad/didn't smell nice) and wool balls and threw that in the dryer. After like ten or fifteen minutes, the smell was pretty much gone, although when I smelled the towel it didn't smell "bad" anymore. J wasn't convinced and thought that it might have been my soap residue. Either way, it didn't ruin the towel so right now her clothes have been generously spritzed and are tumbling around in the dryer.
I've got a couple of possible solutions if this doesn't work. I might try a stronger smelling mix. I might spray them only towards the end of the cycle to give them the best chance for the smell to be lingering. I may cook the solution longer or shorter and play around with how strong I can get the smell to stay in the water.
Either way my house smells pretty yummy right now (even if it's more rosemary than lemony like I wanted). I think I'm going to try the pine needles next since my Christmas tree is still thriving in our house.
