AI2 does not have a pocket, so a trifolded prefold or an insert lays directly in the shell, so it's up against the baby's skin.
With pockets, you obviously use the inserts/liners to stuff the pockets, so they are not directly against the baby's skin.
I've heard that with pockets, depending on what kind of material IS against the baby's skin, that you can switch out the inserts but still use the same diaper if it's a wet diaper, as the (usually) fleece material is thin enough that the pee goes directly to the insert and doesn't soil the material that actually touches the baby. I don't think I would do that though... I have enough pockets that I would switch out the entire diaper.

The first part of this is not necessarily true and the second part is definitely not true.
An AI2 is technically just a diaper that it in two pieces. It can be a pocket, or it can be a cover/insert combo. It can be an insert that snaps into the cover. You can reuse some AI2s if the insert is directly against baby's skin, you can switch out the insert.
You absolutely cannot reuse a pocket diaper by switching out the insert. You would be putting a soiled diaper back on your child. Fleece is not so thin that pee just "goes directly to the insert" without soiling the entire diaper. Do not do this. Don't ever do this.
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
It all revolves around you.

Thank you for the clarification. This is what I thought but wanted to be certain.
