I Think My 3 Week Old Doesn't Like Me...

The mups will be 3 weeks on Saturday and things are going great - really I have no complaints, he is doing exactly what a 3 week old should be, but I feel like the only time I spend with him is when he is BFing. If I try and hold him, he falls asleep on me. If I put him in his PNP, he looks around and just chills when I pick him up he whines until I put him back down, if I put him in his swing, he falls asleep. He likes tummy time, but you guessed it, he falls asleep in 5 minutes. I really feel like we should be spending more time together, but I can't think of any activities to do with him that keep him awake and interacting with me. We "aired it out" last night and he had a great time (he LOVES being naked), but he wanted to be on the floor by himself - he didn't want me holding him. Does this get better? I know he is too little for any kind of big interaction, but I just feel like he doesn't want to hang out with me Maybe it's just my hormones. Please tell me this is normal and that he does love me

**Hugs** Sometimes it feels that way, but it's not so! At 3 weeks old, time really is limited because of sleep. I know E slept way more than he was awake, so the fact that you're able to get some tummy time in at that point is great. Hang in there momma!

Its normal. Both the hormones and the baby that doesn't interact much. Most of their energy at that age is directed towards eating, and falling asleep on you is totally normal....especially with a full belly of milk.

Snuggle while he's sleeping! I sat my butt on the couch and watched a ton of netflix while snuggling the boys in the early days. I still try to snuggle during their evening cat nap but they fight me on it. I miss the cuddles. You are doing a great job! Pretty soon he will be much more alert and interactive.

Aww....it does get better.  They are so limited in their interactions at that age.  DD is content sleeping in her swing or in our arms. I swear she slept 20 hours a day and the only time she was awake she was feeding or being changed.  I am seeing a little more interaction now where she will now look straight at us and move her head to follow us.

Don't feel bad! 3 week olds like to sleep sleep sleep (and poop and eat too but that's about it). A few weeks ago RusalkaSings posted about a website that gives you ideas of activities to do with you LO based on their age. It is www.productiveparenting.com I've been using their ideas lately and they are simple and fun and DD usually gets a kick out of whatever we are doing. Even if your LO doesn't seem interested, don't feel bad. He is still trying to figure out this whole being out of the womb thing.

I'll be honest, the relationship between mama and LO is TOUGH for the first three/four months.  There is such little reciprocation.   Very normal to feel this way.

It will be SO much better when he starts smiling and giving you SOMETHING to hang on to.

Someday soon, you will long for your LO to take a nap. 

Until then, I vote for the cuddles while sleeping.  

At 15 months, my DS wants to playplayplayplayplayplay...cuddles be damned.  You'll be there soon!

I felt like this for at least 6 months.  I realized later on that this is all normal.  They are too young to acknowledge and show these emotions.  I felt like I was just taking care of him, feeding, diapering, etc.  He smiled, but not at me. It all changes.  Now he smiles at me all the time.  He says hi to me when he hasn't seen me for a while.  It does take time, so hang in there mama!  Hugs

Like PP said, it is completely normal to feel this way. I just saw it as me hanging out with LO. Enjoy having LO sleep on you, lay with LO on the floor during tummy time, or just sit next to LO when possible.

I also took that opportunity to take thousands of pics of LO. I have literally THOUSANDS of pics of her sleeping. I treasure them because now I can't get s clear pic of her for the life of me.

My baby girl has never been a cuddle bug or wanted to really spend time with me. It can be really tough but don't let it get you down. Our job is to love them for who they are and what ever their little personalities bring into our lives. Soak up the moments you do get (we call them drive by cuddles) and just keep on loving that baby!

Mine is also 3 weeks, and she is still hardly ever awake for more than 1520 minutes at a time. I spend lots of time holding her while she sleeps, which I am sucking up for all it is worth. These kinds of snuggled don't last for long. Yes, very soon it will all change and he will have longer awake periods. There were a few weeks with DS that he didn't do anything yet not even smile or COO but was more awake, so I had no idea what to do with him, and he was often fussy, didn't want to sit still, but there was just not much to do with him. Then, around 7 or 8 weeks he began smiling, and found his hands, and then things picked up and it seemed like he was learning new things every day. Do not stress, he does love you, so snuggleu him while you can, talking to him is all you really need/can do with him right now, a little tummy time here and there is great.

My 3 1/2 week old is barely awake too, I just try to get my cuddles in when he's sleeping as I know a time will come when it won't be so easy to cuddle them
