Bell's Palsy

Well, I'm the lucky winner! I'd had an earache the past couple days and the night before last night I noticed my face being a little weird, kind of numb, but not really. Anyway, I woke up yesterday morning to find half my facial muscles had taken the day off. I got diagnosed at the ER and have been started on meds.

Well, I have realized I am WAY more vain than I thought I was. But it is what it is. At least it's only for a few weeks, and will hopefully be all better by the time baby is born so I don't have a wonky smile in photos lol

I've started taking more b12 and 6 and have been researching exercises and massage. I feel a little bad about taking the prednisone and antiviral I was prescribed, but so far can't find major red flags for this late in the pregnancy. The only thing I really worry about is dealing with the cough/cold that brought it all on, I'd like to avoid taking more meds, but I don't want my cough to get any worse!

And advice or tips for a full recovery is greatly appreciated! I made an earlier post the other night about my face feeling weird and got some great encouragement. Thank you!!!

PS I really don't mean to be snarky, but if you haven't had this condition, please don't judge me for taking the meds.

  • I took the meds too, and my babe was fine :)

Let me know if you have any other questions that I didn't cover in my last post.  Hang in there, mama!  I know that it can get you down, but you're almost at the point of delivery and it will all start getting better.

ETA - I forgot to mention about the vanity stuff.  I remember telling DH after the fact that I almost felt like the BP was a blessing in disguise.  It was a true lesson in vanity.  After having to walk around for nearly three months plus the recovery with only half of a face it makes leaving the house with messy hair or no make-up no big deal.  It kind of put things in perspective and also gave me empathy for people who deal with major deformities or permanent injuries on their face.

  • My sister took the meds to I'm happy to say my niece came out healthy and is now 17 years old and about to graduate high school with honors and was excepted into Columbia university lol everything will be great. And I wouldn't say your vain I think every person would feel the same way. Hope you feel better soon

  • I have no advice... Sorry :/

I just wanted to say I frankly don't understand why women think they get to judge other women for taking meds during pregnancy anyway. If your provider deems them needed to keep you safe and sound then you do what you need to do and you don't feel bad about it AT ALL. Haters gonna hate, right?

I'm sorry that this has come upon you and I'll be sending some T&P your way that this is short lived and has no long term consequences :)

  • My aunt had this in her pregnancy quite badly and needed a variety of meds. Her daughter is ridiculously smart and summa c*m laude at an ivy league university 19 years later! (apparently thebump censors latin- who knew?!)

I had to take cough syrup with codeine in Dec due to a really bad bronchitis. Even though I only took it twice, I still have people tell me I shouldn't have. My response was simply "I think it's more important for baby that I can breathe than him/her possibly getting a small dose of codeine."

There's someone on here who has a siggy that says "No uterus. No opinion" (or something close!) I live by that! :)
