I was reading about this, and I believe this stage actually begins in the second year of life, so after the first birthday. That makes sense since most are learning to walk and say words at that stage, it can get overwhelming for them.
Now I can definitely say we're in some funky stage here, especially for the past month or so. She is 100% full on drama queen. This is so frustrating because I know she's just getting irritated because she's wanting to choose things more, and she's trying really hard to vocalize what she wants etc, but she gets fed up very easily and has constant meltdowns- you know the ones where they full on throw themselves on the floor and get hysterical, all because I will calmly and gently say "Ok dear you pick out the book you would like to read" then perhaps I made the mistake of touching one of the books accidentally? Or maybe when she was deciding which stuffed animal she wants, I looked at certain one funny? etc etc etc

We've been having some fairly terrible days, but he's mostly still pretty mellow. On the bad days, he'll freak out over nothing that I can see. One day, he asked for water, so DH got him a cup. When he tried to hand him the cup, total screaming on the floor flailing meltdown. After he'd been at it for a couple minutes, I managed to distract him, and then he happily took the cup from me. Crazy toddler...
In the last week, he discovered that he can push the decibel level a lot farther than he had previously realized. And he's recently started being rougher with his hands: hitting, scratching.
The sweetness is still outweighing the bad, loud, and ornery, but he's definitely entered the terrible twos.
No full-on tantrums yet. Talon will shriek to high heaven if we take something away or we're not getting what he wants but it's usually over in several seconds after a little redirection. Ask me again in 6 months

Oh, so that's whats been going on with my DD! She's been throwing some major fits and getting easily frustrated for no reason lately. Plus she's having some heavy separation anxiety with me! I can even get close to the door, because she'll start screaming and running towards me. lol I really thought nothing of it since she has always been strong-willed & a handful. But, now it make sense. I'll be reading on this now.

LO is funny. For the most part she's a very easy going baby, but the last two days if she doesn't get what she wants from me, she starts to whine so I walk away and she slowly sits down then lays down and cries. It's absolutely adorable. But I am in the next room when she's doing this since I walked away. She's down for maybe 5 seconds then gets up. As long as its not in public then she can lay on the floor all she wants. I can't really walk away in the store can I ?
Re: terrible two's
Yes! Dylan has quite the temper and shows it when he doesn't get his way. He also does bad things and laughs and me when I say no. He's pretty cheeky.
DS 1 never did the terrible 2's, it was the 3's and a bit of the 4's that were bad. The terrible 2's are new to us. Hahaha.
I just deal with it by ignoring his cheekiness. If I give him the reaction he wants he keeps doing it.

Yes! She has arm swinging, kicking tantrums already. And she will start screaming "Nahnahnahnah" at me while she swings and kicks.
I just walk away when she gets into those tempers. It seems to diffuse them the best with my DD.
