Lucina Care Medela Pump- Out of Stock?

I emailed Genadyne to see when the Medela Pump In Style is expected to be back in stock ( I have Aetna if that matters) but they said due to the high volume to expect 4-5 days before receiving a response.  I also called but the recording said the same thing and wouldn't let me talk to a representative.  My question is, has anyone reached out to Lucina Care/Genadyne to see when the Medela pump will be back in stock?  I am hoping someone here already has the answer and I won't have to wait for it.

The Ameda Purely Yours is available, but the Medela Pump In Style was highly recommended to me by many Moms... but if it won't be available for a while I am wondering if I should just get the Ameda one? Thoughts?

  • No idea about ordering from there... if your insurance will cover it 100. then it's probably worth it to wait, but I'd definitely find out when it'll be in first. If you can't get it until after you deliver, what would you do if you were in a situation where you needed to pump for your baby?

I had a terrible time with my insurance and just ordered the same pump with the codes that were just posted... not sure what your financial situation is, but I only paid 158! Might be worth it to eliminate your stress...

  • I have Aetna and called Genadyne the first week of January.  They had the Medela Pump In Style available.  I guess it has gone out of stock since then?

I do have to say though that I wound up going with Edgepark (I liked their customer service better), and I also chose the Ameda Purely Yours over the Medela Pump In Style.  I read up on it a bit and found that while the Medela one has the letdown feature, the Ameda one is a closed system and has less parts to wash (which was more important to me).  Plus you can mimic the letdown feature by changing the speeds on the Ameda.  Not saying you HAVE to get the Purely Yours, but just saying that if you have to settle for that one, it's still a GREAT pump.

  • I'm probably a little crazy, I ordered both.  I got the Ameda Purely Yours for free from my insurance and then just ordered the Medela PISA from diapers.com link I saw on the 3 tri board.  I can return the PISA if I decide to, but I like the comfort of having a quality back up pump.

If you're crazy then I am too! I was thinking of doing this... or even just order the Medela PISA and wait for it to be available through insurance and return that one?  I guess it wouldn't hurt to have two, either 1 of each or two of the same... you never when it might break.

  • Edgepark has a notice that due to a nationwide shortage they can't take pump orders currently.  Lucina is also out of stock right now.  Byram is the 3rd place my insurance, United Healthcare, said to call and they are backordered big time.  It's awesome that insurance is covering our pumps but it's also making them very in demand and hard to get.

I agree, awesome that they are covered, not so awesome that they didn't foresee the demand they were going to have for them!   I hope that these places get their act together and re-stock soon!

  • I'm just glad I started researching and hunting when I had a 12 weeks to go because now I'm 6 weeks away and still haven't found one.  I would've freaked if I had waited til now.

I have been talking to my insurance company about this since October and got a different answer every time... finally when I tried again this week they told me to order through Lucina Care/ Genadyne and it would be covered at 100%.  I know the insurance companies are probably getting swamped with calls about this, but they need to have some sort of training with their employees so they give out the right information.

  • Oh I know!  It took me multiple calls to insurance to get an answer on what my specific coverage is versus having them read me their blurb from the website.  Then I get different responses when I call suppliers.  sigh

Not sure if this will help, but since I have Aetna too: Along with Genadyne and Edgepark (which obviously don't have the pumps available anymore, boooo), Aetna told me to check with Byram and SunMed (both national suppliers, both would be shipping it to you just as Genadyne and Edgepark do).  Maybe go on their websites, find a number, give them a try?  They should be able to tell you if they take your insurance or not and whether they have pumps.

Thanks! I am on the SunMed website now and they have the Medela Advanced Personal Double Pump... does anyone know how this differs from the Pump In Style? I am trying to research it now....

Yay! Let us know what they say!  I called that number too and they told me they aren't taking any Medela orders at this time nor do they have an estimated in stock date... so I submitted my request for the Ameda one now and am also submitting a request for the Medela one through SunMed... I will just go with whichever gets back to me first (in case one company runs out before they get to process it).

I ordered the Medela advanced double pump through them yesterday and my understanding is that it's the same pump as the InStyle. They just don't use that name (at least that's what the SunMed rep told me!) Good luck!

Oh perfect, thank you! The rep I spoke to said she needed to email me something to fill out and then they would call me within 48 hours, is that what happened with you? Or were you able to just place the order over the phone?

  • I also have Aetna; I ordered the Medela PIS through Byram Healthcare this morning (877-902-9726).  Customer service was great!  It is on backorder; depending on which one you get (with or without the battery pack), the rep told me it may take anywhere from 2-4 weeks to ship at this point.  I ordered mine with the battery pack because I figure I won't be pumping right away.  If you can afford a possible wait after your due date, I'd call them today.

  • The hospital I deliver at has a women's health boutique that sells the pumps but not with my insurance but it gave me an idea.  I got on another hospital's website that's nearby, found they have a similar type store, they are ordering my pump for me!!!!   It only took me 6 weeks to get an answer but I'll take it.  Basically, my dr needs to write a script, and then when I deliver, my hubby can run down the street to the hospital and get my pump.  YAY
