Hi Ladies,
I tend to be more of a lurker but wanted to reach out to get some advice. I will be starting my LO on solids soon and being a FTM I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with the process. What feeding schedule did you use, how much did you offer at each feeding, when did you switch from cereal to fruits and veggies, etc.?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Re: Starting Solids?
The Gerber website has a nice feeding schedule/chart
also https://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com is a great resource
hi! we're starting solids really soon here too. we are going to start with rice cereal a few times a day after bottle feeding. we formula feed here, so i've heard the best thing to do is feed (whether breast or bottle) then offer a little food after that. we have been experimenting with it just a little already and she doesn't eat much rice at all after her bottle. a few tiny spoonfuls. i think i will try making my own apple sauce and adding that to the rice to see if she likes that any better. she seemed to be fine with it plain, but her face was looking like, "what on earth are we doing here?" haha. but she just got her first tooth in and she seems pretty ready. i'm excited to start a new phase!
i have a baby cook book that lists first foods that has helped me a lot. i think we'll start with things like cereal, and pureed bananas, avocado, peas, sweet potato, apple sauce, pears and things like that. they are supposed to be soft, simple, and easy to digest for baby but still have a lot of nutrients. then once she is 7 months, i'll add another group of foods. that's how the book breaks it down, so it seems easy and makes sense. good luck!

^ That website has a TON of information reguarding all things baby food--recipes, nutritional info, how to introduce, allergies, etc. When we started DS1, I think I offered him about an ounce at a time, once daily. As soon as he got the hang of eating from a spoon, I offered him two feedings daily. When he seemed that the ounce wasn't satisfying him, I offered a little more. Really, baby food isn't as complicated as it seems--you'll know what your baby needs/wants!
Have fun!
This is a great site. I relied heavily on it with DS. Also www.weelicious.com is good.
Couple things to note. Once the spoon has hit their mouth the food is only good for a hour. The bacteria from their mouth is too hard on their little tummies. So put a little in a separate bowl before serving them.
Also this eating thing is new to them. It can take up to 10 tries or more for them to like something, or decide that they don't. My son never liked carrots and still doesn't.
