Is anyone planning on getting the flu shot still? My CNM recommended for me to still get it, but I usually don't like to take stuff like that. I don't like it for me let alone with a growing fetus... I know the outbreaks are awful right now and all our area hospitals are overflowing because of it, I'm still weary though.
Thoughts? Opinions?
Re: Flu shot
There was a huge discussion about this the other day. I'm getting one, like I do every year. The effects of the flu on a pregnant woman/fetus can be much worse than they would be for a typically healthy woman.

I was debating this myself, I have never gotten the flu I only got the shot maybe 4 times. I was actually more afraid being prego getting the shot and the effects. I know the risk I am taking if I do get the flu right now I am drinking a lot of water and avoiding pubilc places. I work in a small sales office so I really dont have to worry there. I do have children in school so thats prob the only place I could see catching something. I was out last friday trying to see if I could get one at a CVS or RiteAid but everyone is out or only giving to 65+ folks.
I am still debating

Damn double bump! Anyways, it's hard to see people still debating this. I've heard of 6 people in my small town alone who've come down with serious influenza in the last few days, two of whom are in the hospital. One is older, and may not actually pull through, she's in that bad a state. The other one is a 5 year old girl who is also not doing very well, although *so far* she's not as bad off as the elderly lady...yet. That could change at any time, unfortunately. She's young and didn't get her shot.
All this talk of the flu shot possibly causing side effects is so lame, the ultimate side effect you're preventing with the flu shot is death - let's not beat around the bush, the flu can kill! It frustrates me to no end when people still hum and haw about possible negative side effects, when the worst one possible from not getting it is so much worse than anything the flu shot itself might *possibly* cause. I just don't understand not doing everything under the sun to prevent getting a possibly deadly disease - or at the very least, preventing yourself from spreading it to some other poor soul who for whatever reason hasn't or can't get the flu shot (babies, the elderly, those with compromised immune systems, etc.). I just really don't understand.

Me neither. My SIL refused to take it and now she's got the flu, holed up in her bedroom for over a week now so she doesn't get her kids sick, freaking out that her kids might get the flu from her.
I just heard of a woman who has 2 month old twins who died of the flu just this week. It's not just older folks who the flu kills. Taking your vitamins ain't gonna help ya!
I got one- my OBGYN super recommended it. I had asked him if I could refuse to get it and he basically told me it would be a very stupid idea. If I love my baby, I need to take care of myself too. With all these violent outbreaks, who knows? Better safe than sorry.
BTW I'm doing great!

So sad
That's my biggest fear. That's why I freaked out today when the Tylenol wouldn't bring down my fever. it's finally down in the normal range and I'm all bundled up. That post made me tear up .....
