There was a lady at the grocery store today with two girls (ages approx. 7-10 or 11) in full makeup: blue eyeshadow, blush lipstick etc. I was internally rolling my eyes-- we were never allowed to leave the house in makeup at that age, and I never would have let the kids I nannied wear makeup out at that age. I guess I am old-fashioned?

Eh, I probably wouldn't have thought too much about it. I wasn't allowed to wear makeup at that age, but I did take dance lessons and we would have to get made up like you described for things like recitals, performances, dress rehearsals, etc. I probably would have just assumed they were wearing it for something like that.
Now if I saw them going out of the house every day wearing makeup like that at their ages, that's another story...

Then yikes!
I wasn't allowed to wear makeup either, but good point about the recitals, etc -- I was a figure skater and we were always done up like that for rehearsals and shows, but if it was just a normal day, no way!
GIrls have the rest of their lives to look like overly made up hoochies. No need to start it so young.
I was allowed lip gloss and clear mascara at 12; light lipstick and mascara at 13... I can't imagine WHY a kid would need to wear makeup at 10. I mean, FFS, they have the rest of their life for that.
But, I barely wear makeup NOW, so maybe I'm the weird one. ;-)
Ya, that's too young for obvious makeup. Well when they get to the pre-teen ages I see nothing wrong with teaching them how to do natural looking, simple makeup. But you should show them how or do it yourself. I didn't start wearing makeup until 14 but all of my friends were already, I just thought they looked silly.
this.
Young and in Love.
