I don't think of Top Gun, but it does make me think of "Sadie Hawkins" dances-- you know where girls are supposed to ask boys to dance?
I could get behind it in the mn spot if there were family significance.
Are you looking for an H name in particular?
I should have disclosed. Hawkins was my grandmother's maiden name. It's signifigant to me, because I adored her!!
OK, that makes a huge difference.
I still don't really like it in the FN spot, but it would be totally sweet in the MN spot. You could still call him Hawk if you wanted to, but your LO might appreciate having a more "conventinal" FN to fall back on.

I immediately started started singing "Sadie Hawkins dance, in my khaki pants..."
Honestly I don't like it in the fn spot and I tend to go for ln as fns. This would make a great mn option though.
"...there's nothing better! Oh, oh, oh!" Can't tell you how many times my friend and I jammed out to that song in high school.
OP, Hawkins is a GP for me. However, I have never heard it used as a first name until Tony Romo named his son that, and I'm afraid people would think that's where I got it from. Or maybe that's just around here because I'm in Dallas...
Well, I'm a Southern girl--we use lots of family surnames--and I grew up with a Hawkins. I always liked his name, partly because I thought the hawk connection sounded cool.
I think using Hawk as a NN would be too much. Hawkins by itself is a great name, though.

Grandmother's maiden name.
No, not really looking for H, in particular, but we do like the jingle of it.
We also like Holden, Liam, Nathaniel, and my husband (bless his heart) likes Bodie.

LOVE Holden. Would use that if it didn't sound totally weird with my last name.

That is our issue. Holden Warren (sounds strange)

I don't think that's TOO strange. It's a little sing-songy with the double en ending. My last name sort of sounds like you are saying "somebody"
Holden Somebody-- Terrible!!

It is my 1 boy name!
Love it!
We are having a girl or we would be using it.
