Hey everyone! Just another cerclage update for me and a few questions. As a reminder, I had my cerclage placed at almost 17 weeks due to a previous pregnancy loss at 18 weeks due to suspected IC. I was on modified bed rest for 5 weeks after the cerclage while also taking progesterone and a 600 mg motrin 3 times a day. I was cleared to return to work at the beginning of this week and the Motrin was stopped last week. I have been having cervical length measurement appointments every 2 weeks since the cerclage and had one yesterday. I am back on bed rest indefinitely as my cervix shortened from 4.67 cm at my appointment to 2.8 cm at yesterday's appointment
We are really worried that we are looking at a greater chance of her being born early. Anyone have any experience with this even with a cerclage? Also, my doctor is going to have me continue taking Motrin for the rest of the pregnancy. However, I have been reading about premature valve closures in the heart due to taking Motrin during the third trimester. Anyone have any experience or knowledge of this? I will be asking my doctor at my appointment next week as well. Thank you ladies!
Re: cerclage update
I lost my DD at 20wks after PPROM'ing. During this pregnancy at my 18wk scan it was discovered that I was 3cm dilated with waters prolapsed into my vagina. I was diagnosed with IC and told a cerclage would not work and they wanted to induce me. I insisted we try the cerclage anyway.
I am now almost 28wks. I was told every step of the way we wouldn't make it any further, yet here we are. I am taking a progesterone suppository and on bed rest. I have had NO cervix since 18wks, but the stitch is holding strong.
I don't have any experience with taking Motrin, but am living proof that sometimes, even when things look hopeless, it can still work out. Keep your feet up and stay hydrated- drink at least 2L of water a day.
Good luck. KUP
Try not to worry, I know it is hard
My cervix measured 2.8 at my 11 week scan this pregnancy so yeah it got shorter but your still ok. I'm currently 32 weeks and my cervical length actually grew once I hit 22 weeks and has gone above 4 and has stayed there. I've had no restrictions but my cerclage was preventative and placed at 11 weeks 4 days.
Take it easy and I hope you have a long and healthy pregnancy
Hang in there hun, I lost my daughter at 20 weeks 2 days due to undiagnosed incompetent cervix- they tried an emergency cerclage but my water broke while being prepped for surgery so there was nothing more they could do at that point.
This pregnancy I got my cerclage at 14 weeks (preventative). My only restrictions were pelvic rest, no lifting over 5 pounds, and "take it easy"- not bed rest, I was still working. By 23 and a half weeks my cervix was measuring almost nothing (after being over 4 cm each week, even the week before) and funneling- even with my cerclage. I was admitted to the hospital but released at 26 weeks because I was stable. I remained on strict bed rest at home and was readmitted at 28 weeks because the same thing was happening. However I was released again after 48 hours and since then my cervix has measured about 1.6 each appointment. I was taken off strict bed rest and put on modified at 32 weeks. My cerclage came out at 36 weeks 5 days and my doc said my cervix looked "like a normal cervix for an almost 37 week pregnant woman- measuring about 2 cm and closed". Even he couldn't believe it. I have no experience with taking motrin but I did take progesterone shots from 16 weeks to 32 weeks. I am still pregnant a week after cerclage removal. You can do this! Feel free to PM me if I can help any more.
Thank you for your reply javagrl! My IC was also undiagnosed until now from my previous pregnancy. With that pregnancy, I had spotting all the way through up until that point where my water broke and it was too late at that point as well.
Your post is definitely encouraging! I am so glad that you and your sweet baby are doing just fine! I have two more appointments next week so I will keep you updated after that. Thank you again for your help!!!! Wishing you a happy and healthy remainder of your pregnancy!
unfortunately, IC isn't typically diagnosed until it's too late.. I lost a dd at 20wks after I PROMM'd due to IC and almost lost this pregnancy at 18wks when it was discovered I was 3cm dilated and my waters bulging.. I was told that your cervix can't grow- that the discrepency is due to different u/s techs' measurements.. but I certainly don't know one way or the other.
wishing you a H+H rest of your pregnancy
