MIL is joining us in DC this weekend to help with Howie while we look at apartments. My fcking sister took her freestyle pump back so I have no pump. I may get a manual one but doubt I'd get enough from that. I'm not worried about supply if I miss a feeding but what do you think about a max of three formula bottles? Is it a big deal? I don't have much else choice because I'm not getting a new freestyle by the weekend.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

SCANDAL!
BFP#1 10 wk missed mc
BFP#2 DS born at 40+2 on 8/14/12 BFP#3 DD Born at 39+3 on 5/13/14
I supplement with formula. DS hasn't had any problems with switching between breastmilk and formula. On the days I'm in the office, I should pump at least 3 times, but I usually end up only pumping twice. It hasn't been a problem.
I thought of this. The thing about my kid is he could have a BM bottle and still nurse but maybe not with formula since it keeps him full longer. I'll get the manual. Honestly, since I don't plan to work before a year, I don't know if I need an electric pump. I think my insurance will cover it, I just need it before I can get my request processed. God my sister sucks!
Get the Harmony. It's an awesome manual and it's not expensive.
Has he had formula before? The day we gave S formula, he didn't eat any less than usual. Maybe he's just a fatty...lol.
SCANDAL!
He's had two formula bottles. The nurses gave him one against my wishes and I freaked put our first night home. Then my milk came in.
I think it's one of those "wives tales" sort of things. I mean, all these posts about Feberizing and waking to eat in the MOTN have to come from some formula moms...yet, S is EBF and sleeps a solid 9 hours straight usually...but then some posts are from EBF babies too. I don't think it makes a difference really.
SCANDAL!
I got an Avent manual pump in for these type of situations after DD was born. I actually keep it in my car all the time now. If you don't end up getting one and your LO is with your MIL and needs to eat, then of course he can have formula. Baby needs to eat!
If it were me though, I'd just get the manual pump (you can pick one up any Target, Wal-Mart, BRU, TRU, etc) and pump before leaving LO with MIL.
Have fun looking at apartments!

This exactly!! I actually love my harmony way more than I thought I would, but formula is not a huge deal either...
I don't think the formula bottle really would be a problem. LO had four bottles of it this week (first time ever) and while it does taste differently it has had no effect on her whatesoever. I also got the cheap Walmart brand pre-mixed (4 8oz for $5). Easy to travel with and really can't waste much especially since it is $5.
Most insurance companies cover a manual pump. You can get them as cheap as $20 from walmart. I have a single electric MIL got me because I was engorged all the time when LO was younger. It is battery operated and can be plugged in and it works great and is the same price as some manual ones. Also, if you have a FSA the pump should be covered.
This is the one I have. It fits in my diaper bag with everything else.

FWIW I only spent $80 on my double pump that is battery operated as well (which is great b/c I have forgot the plug on mutliple occasions) and I have never had any problems with it. It is a first years I think.
Also, not sure of everywhere you plan to visit but this is a neat cafe and I have seen Moms in her BF before and it was no big deal very family friendly but the wait for brunch on Sundays is very long.

Also, if you are touring in an apartment building don't be shy just ask if you can sit in one of the model apartments or the one you are seeing and BF.
If you are in Silver Spring there is an old cafe called Tastee Diner (diner food greasy but okay). I think it is mostly booths which IMO make BF in public easier. It is fairly close to the metro.

My good friend lived here and she liked the building and it is very close to the metro and in downtown Silver Spring.

Thanks! I have a feeling I'm going to be paging you a lot in February.
I will love that. I miss DC but then I am there and miss it here. Good Luck this weekend!
