So I could ask my new bmb but figured you ladies might still remember... When did you let your Lo sleep with their loveys? A had 2 but it was mostly just a toy he was never a snuggler. Now J loves to snuggle. He has a variety of loveys and blankets so that we don't get stuck with just one that he must have lol.... So I hope. Anyways for naps at home and daycare he always gets his pacifier and lovey. Usually once he's asleep the lovey is pulled away, he literally had it smashed all up in his face. However we struggle at bedtime. As soon as I pull it away within minutes he's fussing and wakes up sometimes to the point we just keep him up for an hour or two and try again. We use sleep sacks not swaddled since he can roll half way, white noise and pacifier. Any suggestions? Should I let him keep it or keep up the battle? How old were your los sleeping with loveys at first?
I think G was 6 or 7 months when he started sleeping with his blankie.
B has a few blankies he likes but none that hes super attached to. At night he sometimes looks for something to suck on so we've started to leave just a burp cloth by his face. Its small enough so he won't get smothered or anything.
How big are the lovies? If they're bigger thick blankets or stuffed animals I'd personally be too paranoid to leave it in the crib with LO. If they're smaller and really do help him stay asleep maybe just test it put during naps first.
E didn't want a lovey for a while but he had one available. I had a really light silky thing that he was offered so I felt comfortable leaving it really early. We also used an Angelcare monitor so that always have me some peace of mind.
I put a blanket in with DD at 5.5 months old, but she didn't want a snuggle toy until she was about 10 months. I probably would have let her have one at 6 months without too much guilt/fear. Is it possible to make him a lovey out of like a mesh laundry bag or some other more breathable material? That way he can snuggle and you feel less worried?
Of course the you may have a 3 year old who drags around a yellowed mesh bag everywhere...
Oh geez, isn't it funny how time passes and we forget this stuff? I think it was around 5 or 6 months when G even started showing an interest in snuggling with a lovey, and I'm pretty sure we let her have it in the crib around that time.
I think in your situation, if a lovey seems like it's going to be a critical item for good sleep at night at this age, I'd aim for one that is small (like a little stuffed animal), and not a blanket-type thing.
I gave C his lovey for bedtime at 6 months, after I asked our pedi about it. He was totally fine with it so I assumed it might have been okay earlier? You could always check with your pedi. Strangely enough, he couldn't have one for naptime at DC until he moved to the toddler room (crazy State rules).
I started giving her an A&A blanket at 6ish months, but felt ok about it since it's completely breathable. At that age she liked to tuck it up against her face as well, so I didn't feel comfortable with anything of any substance.
There was nothing in our cribs- except baby and fitted sheet-until they were 18 months old. Then I added a stuffed animal. Then at 20 months a small receiving blanket, then at 2 a fleece blanket, and when we converted a travel pillow was added.
I was always worried about suffocation and strangulation .
Hazel slept swaddled for a longass time, so there was no way she could move her hands to smush things into her face. I think we stopped swaddling in the summer when it got too hot and I gave her an a&a blankie and her little giraffe lovey (one of those small blankies with a stuffed animal head.
DS never had a lovey, but we used blankets to cover him from about 5 months when we stopped swaddling. But we never put anything up near his face. He then got a pillow pet at 1 yr old.
