I will never....

STM is there anything that has happened to you with your LO that you will make sure doesnt happen again.

Im laughing as I think back but when LO was around 8 months I went to get my car washed. We got the car washed today. After I pulled in to vacumm out the car. Little did I know if you close all the doors and open the back of my SUV all the doors lock.... Needless to say my phone and keys were in there. 911 had to be called and sure enough it was my H station dispatched to my car with him on duty. The guys still love teasing me about it. And fyi bc of LO age it is considered an emergency if they are locked in a car. I will never not grab my keys even if Im just standing outside?

I have many more but anyone have any funny stories now that will never happen with you new LO?

  • Oh I totally locked my DS in the car, too, while I was locked out. He was only a few weeks old and really had no clue. Police came pretty quickly since it was only 10 degrees outside. Thankfully the vehicle was running and the heat was on, but I was so shaken up about it. I blamed it on baby brain and lack of sleep.

Other than that, the only other thing I can think of is never underestimating a two month old's ability to roll. My DS rolled completely across the room one time while I ran downstairs to change the laundry. Had no clue that he was even able to roll over yet and completely freaked me out when I came upstairs and he wasn't on the blanket where I had left him. Ugh!

EDIT: He was just two months, not one month. Duh. And he really never did again until closer to 3 months. Random fluke, I guess. Or he was bored.

  • LoL. I've locked DD in the car, too.. I had taken my parents' station wagon to Ikea, and who knows how the doors locked, with me and my brother on the outside, and my darling on the inside. She wasn't buckled in, and she was old enough (maybe like, 2 1/2?) that she thought it was hilarious that Mommy was freaking out while we tried every motion and gesture imaginable to get her to push the unlock button on the door handle. I'm glad it was all a game to her! (and also that we didn't live that far from Ikea, so I had my dad drive over with the spare key!).

  • I will never leave DS inside the house while I run out to my car to get something if I don't take my keys with me.

When DD was about 2-2.5 I hit the unlock button on my car remote and went outside to get stuff out of the car. She stayed inside the front door to watch me. That's when I realized that she learned how to lock and unlock our front door. She closed the door and locked me out of the house. Luckily she stood there and laughed at me until I got her to unlock the door again. But OH MAN did I panic standing on the front porch, it was like 7 am, my phone was inside and no one else was home.

She thought it was hilarious. She has even done it at 4yo when DH and I have gone out on the front porch to smoke together (I quit BEFORE BFP by coincidence) so it is a habit now to grab keys whenever we go outside.

  • This is like three embarrassing parenting moments in one but here goes. When my daughter was a couple weeks old we went to visit my grandparents. When I left their neighborhood and turned on to a main-ish road, which was kind of a sharp turn, the infant carrier tipped over, fell out of the base and was lying on its side in the back seat. I never could figure out what I did. Maybe I just set it on top of the base and didn't click it in, not sure.

So I *kind of* pulled over, not very safely, with the back end of my car still pretty much in the middle of traffic and jumped out of the car and into the backseat to rescue my precious baby, who hadn't even woken up. I situated her into the base correctly and went to get out of the car. BUT - the child safety locks were engaged and I couldn't open the door. I was pretty much in a blind panic at this point. My car was half in traffic on a pretty busy road and as far as I could tell I was *stranded* in the back seat with an infant.  I had a pretty small car a the time and I couldn't squeeze between the bucket seats in the front with the car seat in the middle of the backseat and only a few weeks post c/s.

Luckily my purse was in the backseat, with my cell. I called my grandfather to come let me out of the car.

He walked up to the back window and made the universal sign for rolling down the car window.  I rolled down the window and he said "Now can you get out?"

I reached over and opened the door from the outside.

    I was so mortified.
