Sleeping positions

I've found that the only ways for me to fall asleep are either on my back or stomach, which I know is going to have to stop soon. And this may be a dumb question but is there any specific time I should be more diligent about side sleeping? I'm 10 1/2 weeks and I've read in other places that when its time to stop sleeping on my back it'll be too uncomfortable to do so anyway. But is this true? I've been holding off on the body pillow until absolutely necessary but now I'm wondering if I should get it.

Re: Sleeping positions

  • If you are comfortable on back then you can sleep that way. The no being on your back thing is a myth. Yes the baby can put weight on a vein BUT, if it is actually causing a problem your body will automatically make you change positions in your sleep.

  • Yes that's true. I would actually wake up on my back a lot in third tri with DD. most positions you aren't in for long anyway by then :. Also I would highly recommend a pregnancy pillow!!! They ate beyond amazing! Mine got put away for maybe 6 months between pregnancies and DD is 18 months. I only put it up because DH hates how much room it takes up. So much better than a body pillow. Mine is boppy brand but I doubt that matters too much.

    Yep
  • I have slept with my body pillow since I got it when I was pregnant 3 years ago. Amazing!!!!! Don't go another day without one. You can hug it on your side and it is the best!
  • If the babe compresses your vena cava, you'll know it. Keep sleeping on your back if that's how your comfortable.

  • I slept on my back with DD until it was uncomfortable to do so. I felt like my heartburn was worse that way, and I could breathe better on my side. My OB told me it's not a big deal at all, and to sleep however I was most comfortable. I don't usually sleep on my left side, but wound up switching back and forth between sides because my hips would start to hurt if I stayed in one position too long.
