High Blood Pressure

Any other ladies have high blood pressure. I went to my appt yesterday and my BP was 158/95 at my last appt it was similar. Doc put me on Procardia and has me taking my BP twice a day. He says if it doesn't go down and stay down I run a high risk for a placental abruption. Do any of you have similar experiences?

Re: High Blood Pressure

  • Geez could your Dr have been any nicer about it. Or well more gentle.

  • I developed gestational hypertension around 32 weeks with my 1st pregnancy. I was put on partial bedrest, monitoring my own bp at home and had to get non stress tests done twice per week to monitor baby. Ended up developing low amniotic fluid due to the high bp affecting the placenta and was induced at 37 weeks. This time around, at my first prenatal appointment I was put on  baby asprin in hopes to prevent a repeat. I never developed placental abruption only the amniotic fluid became an issue. I know this is a bit different than your situation but if you are aware of it early on, taking the medication to keep it under control and monitoring bp regularly I would think you should be just fine.

It's nothing to mess around with, and I think it's great that her dr is addressing it and being proactive.

Oh absolutely....love love proactive Dr's. Im hoping mine is the same way.

  • Mine told me if we got it early and could get it under control we could prevent other issues from occurring. I started medication yesterday but haven't taken my BP yet . I have to train SO how to do it and he's at work.

  • I have chronic hypertension from before pregnancy about 10 months ago I started meds. Am now taking Labetalol twice a day and its helping but we're still trying to find the right dosage. My doctor is so great. She is assuring me that once we get the meds right, everything should be good. It is nerve wracking to deal with high blood pressure... which of course makes it go up!!
  • I've never had high bp till now mine was 130/90 both time so my dr put me on labetalol twice a day and so far it's been perfect. I'm actually going to ask her next week if I am considered high risk or not.
