3 appointments that seem like they should be 1?

After all my incessant worrying, all was well at my first ultrasound/prenatal visit! YAY!! Heartbeat was 153 and I am 8 weeks along. :) huge relief.

I thought this was really strange though.... They only did the ultrasound at this visit. They scheduled me to come in next week for a "Nurse Intake" and then the following week for a "Prenatal Physical". I thought it was strange that they would do this in 3 different appointments, instead of just one, or at the very most two appointments. Makes it difficult to keep it a secret @ work! Anyone else experience this? Or did they do it all in 1 visit?

  • I've had quite a few US before my actual prenatal visit because of my prior loss. Maybe they break it up because the first appt is so long?

  • Same issue here! 3 different appointments! I ended up just telling my boss the good news since I've had to request the time off.
  • Seems odd that they split them up like that. I'm almost positive I'll have all of that at my first appt.

  • My office does 3 but is great about doing them back to back but ask you to expect to be there about 2 hours. Do I took half a day to be safe.

  • That's the same thing my doctor is doing... smh... I think it's to get more money out of insurance companies... when I had my daughter they did all that in one... and didn't even do an ultrasound until waaaay later in the pregnancy, now it looks like everyone gets and early one and then a later one...

    I agree with kestock120.

To me it sounds like another way of making more money, since they can bill for 3 times instead of 1.

  • My first visit was with a nurse and we went over history, took a pee test....then 2 weeks later when I 9wks, they did the u/s. I think you need that later or else you won't see much. It was nice to have time with the nurse to get a million questions out of the way. I still won't see an actual doctor until my next appt, at 13wks. At that time there will be another u/s for screenings too. All is normal I think. Good luck with your upcoming appts!
  • I only had an u/s done at my first appt (7w1d).  I'm going back next week (11w1d) to have the Nurse Intake, physical and NT scan.

Can you talk to them to try and combine some of the appointments together? I know for some people taking so much time off of work can be a pain.
They told us our next appointment (which is sort of like 3 appts in 1) will last several hours.

    My baby is ONE!!

  • Definitely sounds shady. At the same time, if you combined all the appointments into one and suddenly its a 4 hour block, it would be a scheduling nightmare. The doctors could only do, like, 2 of those a day BEFORE seeing their regular patients.

  • Mine is all in one.  I think it was no more then an hour to do the appointment and meet with the doctor.  Also, I couldn't do three different appointments like that.

    Ding ding ding!

I have already had 3 appointments:

    1) initial pregnancy visit where they confirmed the pregnancy and just went over basic questions/to dos and not to dos/etc

    2) Ultrasound

    3) Physical and Blood Test

And I have another one scheduled next week to review my blood test results and have another ultrasound. I'm already sick of the doctor and not even out of 1st tri yet!
