RRL tea tribe?

Anyone want to start our own little group for drinking RRL tea?

We had our first appt with our midwife today and she seems excited that I mentioned it! She encouraged I start drinking it right away. I picked up a Mommas Blend at a local herb shop, and we made our first batch tonight. I'm not a tea drinker so it'll be interesting to see how I take to it.

I thought it would be fun to share recipes, tips, stories. Then at the after we  deliver our babies we can share birth experiences to see if it made any difference in our labors. Anything that can help a FTM's delivery "easier" sounds awesome to me!

Any interest? I know there is a group on the mothering board with a ton of good info, but its crazeeee long.

Re: RRL tea tribe?

  • I would love to try this. I'm striving for an unmediated birth so this is a great idea. I will say, I need to do a little more research on it.

Do you have any websites for info?

EDITED everything I read on it recommends drinking in the 3rd tri.

  • Don't quote me on this, but I read somewhere that that particular tea should be avoided in the first trimester. I heard it's really helpful in the third trimester. My mom drank it when she was pregnant with me.

  • I've never heard of this. Off to google.

  • It's my understanding that RRL tea is kind of a matter of personal comfort/opinion. I haven't seen a clear opinion/research on when its best to start. However it seems like its popular to start off slow, then increase the dosage through your third trimester since it is a uterine tonic. Then on your birthing day, many women bring along a much stronger tonic to chug.

IMO,  I have more faith in my midwives (w/ several years studying herbalism/nutrition)  opinion, rather then googles opinion. I plan on drinking a cup/day.

But of course everyone should do their own research and do what feels best! :)

  • Hopefully that link above works. It has pages of info!

Or otherwise google: red raspberry leaf tea tribe mothering.com

Ill be drinking it starting at 28 weeks like I did last time. My MW does not recommend it during 1st tri because of possible increase of miscarriage...I think if I remember correctly from my first pregnancy.

Ditto. 3rd tri only for me too. But I do think it helps, that's why I won't use it early.

  • Last tri here as well. I did that and evening primrose oil with DS and his delivery was incredibly easy. I pushed for 9 minutes.

  • I exclusively used a midwife with DD and it was recommended to me in 3rd tri along with evening primrose oil.  I did both but can't say it helped.
