Baby Names

August

Hello! Two questions:

1) What are your thoughts on August for a boy? Love it, like it, hate it?

2) Does knowing we're considering this name because it was the name of my great grandfather (who had a huge impact on my life) change your opinion at all? Or that it's a German name and that's my heritage? Why or why not?

Thanks ladies! We're not even TTC #2 yet, but August is the name I wanted for DD if she had been a boy, but DH vetoed it early on. Now he says he likes it, so I wanted more opinions :-)

  • I live this name the fact that its after a family member makes it even better. I do not like, however, the NN Gus.

  • I love this name. It's an ex-bf's last name so I could never use it, but if that weren't the case, it would be one of my top choices.

  • Love it. It was on my list for DS but DH vetoed it.

  • I'm not in love with August, but I think it's perfectly nice. And I do looooove nn Gus. Probably enough to make me reconsider on August.
  • Yep, love it especially with a family connection. It is classic, not too popular but familiar.

  • I think it's "ok" in genera,l but because of the connection with your grandfather, I like it more and think it would be a nice way to honor him.
  • August has been popping up on this name board and I am really coming around to it.  I really like that it has a family connection.

  • I really like it. We are considering it for a MN for our son if we have one. It's pretty set at the moment. If you like it go for it. I'm not a fan of the NN Gus. Family names doesn't make me like a name any better.
  • love love love love love love LOVE August.

It's a family name for me as well, and I'd be thrilled to be able to give a future son this name.

Exactly this. And the family connection is a bonus, on top of that.

OMG Joyfully. Get out of my head - lol!

Love it, always loved it. My DH was always vetoing it before too (I've wanted it since I was pregnant with DS2), but a couple of months ago, he said it's grown on him.

If this baby is a boy, he'll be August for sure. Smile Clearly I think Eliza and August make a fabulous sibling pair too! lol

What the HECK!! Hahahaha! So weird.... well, I think your taste in baby names is fantastic, clearly :) I've missed seeing you around, Kate! Hope all is well with you and the family!

Thanks for all the positive feedback, ladies! Just making sure I don't love a name that everyone loathes, heh heh.

  • I like the family and cultural significance. I think the name is okay, I've never met anyone with the name so I just can't picture it being used in real life. That doesn't mean that it's a bad name, it's just a strong and uncommon name.
