Food Allergy

Egg allergy?

LO ate pancakes for the second time yesterday and loved them. We broke off little pieces and he gobbled them up. He had water from a sippy cup throughout the meal. DH and I were still eating when LO was done, so he happily sat and hung out with us for a bit and had a while to digest his food. We then got in the car and after a few minutes, LO had a major vomit episode. Trying to figure out what happened. Could he be allergic to eggs? Were the pieces too big? Did the motion of the car not sit well with the food? As mentioned above, this was the second time he had these exact pancakes. He did great with them the first time.

Re: Egg allergy?

  • Most allergic reactions happen on the second or third time you introduce a food (my son had an anaphalexis reaction to eggs on the SECOND time he tried it).

With that said, i don't think this was an allergic reaction.  She could have ate too much. Something didn't agree with her stomach. A stomach bug?

For your own peace of mind, i would bake muffins with eggs and offer it to her (make sure you have childrens benadryl in the house just in case).

Most imprtantly, follow your gut feeling. If you think she's allergic, have her tested.

  • My son ate pancakes many times and once or twice I noticed some redness by his lips.  Since he was teething, I didn't put too much thought into it, but did always watch his reaction.  However, the first time I gave him scrambled eggs, there was an immediate rash on his face and he kept spitting.  You could tell his mouth felt funny - either itchy or swollen.  Luckily his reaction wasn't more serious, but I brought him to the allergist a week later and, sure enough, he was allergic to eggs. Good luck with your child, but I would recommend getting tested!

  • My daughter has an egg allergy. First time she had scrambled eggs she got hives within minutes. You could always challenge with real eggs. However what u describe does not sound like an allergy.
