changing table

CP isn't working, so this is an old-fashioned poll.

Do you still change your LOs on their changing table?  Or on a bed?  On the floor?  Somewhere else?

We still use the changing table but I was reading on another thread that I should be doing it on the floor for safety reasons.  I feel like if I dropped a baby off a changing table at any age, it would be bad.  I realize older toddlers are more squirmy....but my back would break if I was a floor- or bed-changer.  So, we both still use the changing table.  They do at daycare too.

What about you?

Re: changing table

  • I'd say 90 changing table, 10 floor. If I open the blinds so he can look out the window while I'm changing him he isn't super squirmy.

  • We never used a changing table. In the early months I mainly changed her on my bed, then as she got bigger I'd change her in the crib or on the floor.

  • I love using the changing table and have used it since the beginning. It has a strap so it's definitely safe and WAY more comfortable than bending down and getting on the floor.

I don't know when they grow out of it but DS still fits. DS2 is on the way so I was asking this question on another board because I was debating moving DS's pad into DS2's room but we will see in a few months.

  • If we're upstairs, we use the changing table (or if we're in a public restroom). Other than that, we change her on the floor. Oddly enough, she did fall off the changing table for the first time last week. Even worse, one of the drawers was open, so she hit that before she hit the floor. A double whammy! Luckily, she was not hurt, just shaken up, and...well, she hasn't been squirmy on the changing table since!

  • I have a changing table but never used it with Dylan. I found that more awkward than changing him on the floor.

    We are floor changers ;)

  • We stopped using the changing table a long time ago!  I just didn't feel comfortable changing a squirmy kid on something up high and too lazy to use straps. Not to mention the changing table was in the nursery upstairs and most of the time we are downstairs in living area. We are definitely floor changers....just throw down the changing pad.

This, except I never changed her in the crib, only on the bed and now on the floor.

  • We have always used the changing table, well her dresser with a pad and still do.

  • We used the changing table til about 7 or 8 months I think. Then she started pulling up to stand on it, and that was scary. She almost fell off once too when I was changing her clothes. She hit her chest on one of the corner posts. Pretty sure that was the last time I used it at home. I still use them in public bathrooms, but at home we just change her on the floor.

  • Used to be change table 100%, but it was like 5 steps from where we ate, played etc. In our new house, it's upstairs. I do about 50/50 floor and change table depending on if it's going to be nap time, time to change clothes etc. At DC they do floor.
