High-Risk Pregnancy

Elevated liver enzymes at the start of 2nd trimester?

I found out I have gallstones when I was 6 weeks pregnant. I am now 14 weeks and the surgeon has agreed to delay surgery and watch me because my gallbladder otherwise looks healthy. My blood work from that appointment showed that my liver enzymes are extremely elevated. OB had been following me closely for 3 weeks and my levels haven't come down. I go in for more labs tomorrow. My OB said that we would talk about how to go forward on Wednesday if they are still elevated. My bp has never been elevated and I haven't gained any weight. I do have headaches often, I've had horrible morning (all day) sickness, and I'm more exhausted than I was with my previous 3 pregnancies. Does anyone have any experience with this?? I'd love to be able to be released from high risk OB and go back to the midwife clinic. :(

  • I found out I had gallstones at 20 weeks and my liver enzyme was elevated as well. We tried managing it with diet but at 23 weeks I had to have it taken out. My dr. continued to monitor blood work throughout my pregnancy but they went back to normal shortly after I delivered.

Sounds like it could just be gallbladder related.

  • They thought they might be related at first. I am asymptomatic with no infection or thickening so they have ruled that out. They asked about my diet and told me that I was already following the changes that they would have wanted to implement. Unless I have a blockage they won't do surgery. I'm just ready to know what is going on.
