This is all over my local news and is has gained national attention as well. It is just so disgusting/disturbing to think these young people (so many of them) could act this way. Not to mention the adults that may have possibly been covering it up for the sake of a football season!
Re: *Disturbing* Teens joke about rape
Ugh why do young people today suck so hard.
It's not just young people. I've heard a coach knew about the incident and dismissed it. These kids learn the dismissive attitude toward rape from somewhere.
So I did not read the article because rape disturbs me so much.
This might be way off from the point of this post so ignore if you want:
But I think it would be so hard to be a teenager in todays world. I just talked about this with DH last night. High School was hard enough when I went and we only had pagers and catty girls. Now the internet and social media make it impossible for kids.
Can you imagine doing something embarassing and having it put on the internet forever? Or having a picture of you blasted all over the place? Or having a rumor spread in 5 minutes to the whole school? I am so nervous for DD.
They sucked hard when we were young. They just didn't have a platform to tell the whole world how much they sucked.
Me too.
I'm hoping that by the time my boys are in school, something will have changed for the better. But seriously what is going on in this world. I'm seriously scared for what the boys future looks like. It seems like kids are either "uncool" and you have to worry about them being bullied (or worse) or they are "cool" and douchebags.
I know thats a generalization. But I feel like the middle ground is becoming less and less. when I was in HS I wasn't popular, but I wasn't a social pariah either. I had good friends, we stood up for each other. I hung out in several different groups of people. I was bullied for a bit but my group stood up for me.
Even in my HS people made light of rape. There was this girl that got pregnant, everyone was so terrible to her, and then when it came out that she got pregnant from rape and wasn't allowed an abortion because she was catholic. People said "She was asking for it" because she had always dressed.....provocatively. She ended up dropping out after her baby was born. But I feel like had people stood up for her, she probably could have finished her education.
Probably one of my biggest regrets in HS was not standing up for her. She'd always been a loner and no one really knew her none of my circle said or did anything either way. But I still wonder if I'd said something my friends would have backed me up, and she would have stood a chance.
I guess thats true. Its definitely a deciding factor in the boys not having their own computers in their rooms when they start school. We'll be having a family computer in the living room.
I'm nervous for the boys. Buddy is so "soft" and sweet and I would hate to see him get that bullied out of him. But I don't want him to be a bully either.
Its scary having boys too. I'm going to drill into their heads that no means no, silence means no, and alcohol means NO.
I'll just hope and pray past that, that they never get into a sucky situation.
Also WTF to them making jokes about her looking dead! What is wrong with them? Those don't seem like run of the mill "awe she's passed out lets fvk her" comments. (which are also terrible.)
Being like "Oh she looks dead lets have sex with her" is like a new level of fvcked up.
I know you will! I just wonder what their parents are really like, you know. I didn't watch the video, because it would just be too much. The bolded is sickening. Joking about rape is horrible, and then "oh, it's okay as long as she's not alive looking." W.O.W.
