Re: Icelandic girl known legally as "Girl" fights for her name

  • Whenever I read one of these stories, I feel thankful to live in a country where you can name your kid any fool thing you like.

    USA! USA! USA!
  • Ha! I was just reading this article. While sometimes people choose names for their kids that I would never use (and sometimes names I definitely side eye) I still can't imagine not allowing people to choose what name to use.

  • I just saw this on Yahoo and came here to post it.  The fact that there is only 3565 in total between boy and girl names is what got to me.

I heard about this on radio this morning!I think its a little crazy that you have to pick from a set list of names.nbsp; I don't agree with only being able to pick from a set list, even though I wish people would stop trying to be youneek andnbsp;use thesenbsp;crazy, ridiculous spellings.nbsp; I don't think we need a law, just more common sense here in the US!I tried to look for the list, but the websites aren't in English.nbsp; On Wikipedia I found that they even have an Icelandic Naming Committee.nbsp; Wow.nbsp; They are serious about names.

This isn't the full list, but here are the most common names:
