High-Risk Pregnancy

Glyburide and low #'s in the 60's.

So the peri did put me on 2.5mg of glyburide before dinner and before breakfast. I took my first pill before dinner.

I had...

Ground turkey and mushroom pasta sauce over spaghetti squash, with green beans, half of a whole wheat biscuit and three spoon full's of raspberry sorbet(to get enough carbs) for a total of 53carbs at dinner.

I tested two hours later and my # was 63. My after dinner numbers have been 122-127. Never below 120. I know the medicine is supposed to lower my numbers but, that fast and that much? I am a little confused now. I will call in the am to see what the peri thinks but, didn't know if anyone had any insight. Thanks gals!

  • I'm not on glyburide but I would definitely call your dr. That's a really low number. Do you feel ok?

  • I feel ok, I ate a greek yogurt when I saw the number because not pregnant I am hypoglycemic so I know I get shaky and pass out when my numbers get low. Im just baffled it worked so much that it cut my numbers in half. That doesn't seem the normal response?
  • One of the big cons of oral meds going too low.  Insulin might be a better option since you can tweak the dose more.

  • That is really low and really fast. Definitely call the OB.

  • Did you test with another strip?  That is a very fast and dramatic drop.  It is very possible you had a bad strip.  My dr told me that if I ever have a really off number to wait a few minutes and retest using another finger (obviously with a new needle and strip).
  • I havent had numbers that low but it may also have been a combination of what you ate and when you took the pill. I have had my numbers dip after taking the pill especially in the beginning. When I called they told me they wanted me on it for at least 5 days as thats how long it takes to see results and then they would evaluate my numbers and dosage. They increased my dosage yeserday. I was told to take the pills 12 hours apart regardless of where it falls during meals, after meals, whatever. So maybe that is something else to consider if you aren't taking it 12h apart? GL to you!

This too! I have noticed if I get a very low reading I need to test again. Usually I didnt get enough blood out of my finger and it yielded a ridiculously low number. I'll try another finger and test again and get a more accurate number. Or sometimes it really is that low.

  • I did re test 10 minutes later with another finger, strip, etc and got the same result. I called this am I am just waiting to hear back.
  • I was on Glyburide and would get numbers in the 40s.  It is notorious for this rapid lowering your doctor will definitely help.  Although, mine chose to keep me on it instead of insulin.
