TMI Cloudy Urine

I have experience a UTI, BV, and a yeast infection this pregnancy. On Christmas Eve, I went to L&D because I had cloudy urine, nausea, cramping, and back pains and the on call nurse told me to go for a just in case. While I was there, they tested my urine and told me I didn't have any infections. However, I have always been under the assumption that cloudy urine = infection (or in some cases, not enough water intake, but I have been drinking anywhere between 60-100 oz of water a day).

Since Christmas Eve, I have noticed my urine is cloudy about 3 more times, today included. It has been either my FMU or the second, and then it doesn't happen anymore. In fact, most of the time it is really clear. I asked the OB what else could cause it and she said discharge mixing with the urine. However, I don't like this OB very much. I have an appt on the 7th (and I actually am scheduled to see her) and I plan to bring it up again. (I am also contemplating calling and rescheduling in an effort to see someone different.)

Should I be more concerned? FWIW, there is no itching or burning, although I am still cramping and have occasional lower back pain. Some days I pee only once every couple of hours, but yesterday for example, I had to pee about 5 times in 2 hours (although I had consumed about 48 oz of water in that same time period).

Should I call tomorrow and see if they can get me in this week? Or am I overreacting again?

Re: TMI Cloudy Urine

  • I feel you. I have had all the same problems. I have also had cloudy urine almost every day this pregnancy. It's usually in the morning and clears up as the day goes on and I drink more water. My urine is tested at all my appointments and is usually fine so I've just gotten used to the cloudiness. Definitely bring it up, but as long as your urine tests fine and you're drinking enough water, I think you are fine.

  • I don't think you are overreacting, but if they are testing you and it is coming back negative, then I'm not sure what else they can do...

I did have a mild asymptomatic UTI a week or two ago that was discovered because I went into L & D with contractions every 3 minutes.  They were painless though, no cramping, no back pain, etc.  My urine was slightly cloudy but nothing that I would have given a second thought to if i hadn't been contracting so regularly.

  • Are you eating or drinking a lot of dairy? That can cause cloudy urine from what I was told.

  • I asked my MW about this and she said the same thing about discharge. She also tests my urine every time I pee at our appointments.

    I wouldn't worry about it.

  • I'll sometimes have cloudy urine, too, but no symptoms of other problems, so I don't worry about it. It's not cloudy EVERY time, so I just chalk it up to pregnancy weirdness.
