Sad Realization

So while visiting with some close family friends this holiday, I received some very sad news. 2 people who have been very important in my life won't be around to be in my daughter's life. One is a close friend who I have known for 16 years. She received a diagnosis with an incurable condition over the summer, and had been doing well with treatment, but she recently lost her job and thus her insurance causing her to have to stop treatment. She is rapidly getting worse and at this point I'm even worried about whether or not she'll make it to my daughter's birth. It's incredibly hard for me to come to terms with since she has become more like a sister to me over the year that just a friend. To make things even worse, this friend's aunt who over the years has sort of adopted me as her niece as well is also very ill. She fought cancer a few years ago and it was in remission, but now it's back and spreading rapidly. I had always pictured both of these women being an important part of my daughter's life and it's just a shock to realize that without a miracle, it's doubtful either of them will be.
