I know this board doesn't care for it but I actually like it - I live on the West Coast so have no association with the City in NJ, maybe that's why it doesn't bother me. DH likes it too.
I like it - I wouldn't associate it with Camden, NJ because I'm not familiar with that city. I actually think of a couple "celebrities" (Nick Lachey & Kristen Cavalleri) who named their sons that.

Thanks for all the responses ladies. I've never even heard of Camden, NJ, so I appreciate the insight!
Camden, NJ is a really bad city and it has a reputation for being so, always on those "worst cities in america" lists. They set a record for murders this year. I live about 45 minutes away from there so I wouldn't touch the name with a 10 foot pole, but if you live no where near NJ and its not a common association where you are, its not a terrible name I guess.
Re: Camden
Yep. I prefer Cameron.

Yeah, I think of the city too, but that might not be such a big deal in Texas.
Baby Name Popularity by State
I'm not a huge fan of baby names inspired by place-names.
Why not Cameron?
I like it. It doesn't make me think of the city even though I'm aware of it.
Although I prefer the name Steven to Robert, I don't like the fn and mn having the same ending sound.

Haha this was my first thought, although I might have been thinking more scary than shitty.
Being from NJ originally, I could never use this!
