XP: Anyone EBFing past one year?

Is anyone planning on continuing EBF past one year? If so, what does your doctor think? We don't have DDs one year appt until the middle of January and I have a fair amount of BM in the freezer. I am planning on letting her nurse while we are together, but I am unsure if I should start giving her WCM part of the time too. I probably have enough BM for her to get two sippies a day at daycare until 14 months.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

Re: XP: Anyone EBFing past one year?

  • We still BF here. DS is 21 months (2 months premature). Our doctors have never been anything but supportive. He gets CM in his food and such.

Do you have any specific questions or did you just wonder what my doctor thinks?

I'm here if you have questions!

  • DD is nearly 32mo.  We still BF.  She doesn't really like cow's milk, and only occasionally eats cheese or yogurt.  Our doctor hasn't said a thing about it, and I wouldn't really care if she did or not. :)

  • DD still nurses a few times a day but I'm almost 35 weeks pregnant so she's only getting colostrum. She does get some WCM from time to time because she sees DH drinking it and thinks it's cool. She also eats a decent helping of cheese etc every day.

Our doctor has never said anything.

  • We'll be bfing until she wants to stop. We're at 15 months now. My pedi is encouraging, though I don't need her blessing to know it's the right thing for me and my daughter. I'm still pumping at work because 1) it works for my schedule and 2) she doesn't like WCM.  You can absolutely start giving WCM, but I'd discuss it with your pedi.
  • DD is 18 months old and we're still BFing 5-6 times a day. The pediatrician that we originally had in FL was not at all supportive of breastfeeding toddlers. He was horrible. The new pediatrician that we have here in WA is amazing and she's completely supportive of it. DD has never had any WCM. There is no need to introduce WCM if your LO is still BFin'g at least 3-4 times a day.

  • I still BF a few times a day and at night but we also give organic WCM a couple times a day. My pedi is fully supportive of BFing but also thinks some WCM is good for the fat but they could also get it in certain foods too.

  • My DD is almost 17 months and is a nursing maniac.  She also gets cow's milk but only drinks 4 oz or so per day.  She loves cheese and cottage cheese though.  At her one year appointment her pedi said something about how many ounces of milk she should be drinking a day.  I didn't really bring up that she still nursed and he didn't ask, but I think he'd be supportive either way.

  • we are still nursing at bedtime and once in the middle of the night. my lo is a little over 15 months.

my pedi said nurse as long as we are both happy doing it.

my pedi definitely does not encourage giving WCM. he says that babies do not need milk from other sources, and as long as i offer other calcium foods like cheese and yogurt, shes fine without it.

my lo does not drink WCM or any other milks for that matter, and i will probably offer it to her every now and then but so far she has shown no interest.

i never planned on EBF past a year, but i absolutely have enjoyed it and i am letting my lo self wean.

    i love this.

  • I BF my daughter until she self-weaned at 18 months.  I was willing to keep it up as long as she wanted, but she decided she was done.  I'm so glad we were able to keep it up for as long as we did.  When we have another child, I'll do the same for him/her.

  • DD is 19 months and still BFing about 2 times a day. She also gets WCM. We won't stop nursing until she is ready.

  • DS still nurses 4 times a day at 16 months old.  Our pediatrician doesn't say much about it, but she seems to support it.  He eats a lot of cheese and yogurt, but doesn't really drink WCM.  He has tried it on numerous occasions, but I don't give it to him regularly.
  • I EBF until 13 months with my daughter and then stopped due to pain that I had during nursing from the beginning. If I wouldn't have had the complications with nursing I would have continued longer than that. My doctor was very supportive and I believe she was aware of the benefits of extended breastfeeding.
