High-Risk Pregnancy

XP: IUGR

I have gestational diabetes, my doctor is monitoring me weekly.  One week I have a NST and fluid check, the following week a NST and growth scan.

Every ultrasound we had in the beginning the baby was smack dab in the middle for growth, usually around the 45-55 percentile.

December 3rd the baby measured in the 43rd percentile when all the measurements were put together with an estimated weight of 3lb 12oz.

December 17th the baby measured in the 18th percentile and an estimated weight of 4lb 6oz.

I have always measured small but up until this date the baby was always progressing fine.  After the 17th, she said that if the baby's percentile was any lower we would discuss induction because it would be better for the baby to get the nutrients on the outside.

Today, I measured a little over 3 weeks behind.  I don't have the growth scan until Jan. 2nd, but today the baby failed the NST but then passed a biophysical so she said everything was fine.

I'm an absolute disaster with anxiety.  Does anyone have experiences with IUGR?  When or were you induced early?

Re: XP: IUGR

  • I am dealing with iugr this pregnancy. She has failed a couple of nst's but passed bpp's so that has kept us going. My last scan she was just over 2 1/2 lbs. My doctor would like to see her reach 4 lbs before we deliver but if she falls below the 3 rd percentile at anytime or stops growing or shows signs of distress they will deliver at that point. They know my placenta is what is causing this poor growth and it really scares me. I have heard from several people including nicu nurses say how well iugr babies do when they are born so I keep trying to focus on that. I hope everything goes really smoothly for both you and your little one.

  • I don't have any experience other than at work.  I know when they take the baby due to IUGR that most of them do pretty well and eventually catch up.  You have made it pretty far so the baby's lungs should be pretty developed.  I hope everything turns out well.
  • My son was born at 36 weeks due to iugr. I can't see if you have a ticker so I'm not sure how far along you are, but if they were to take him early, they would most likely give steroid shots. If they don't mention it before induction, I definitely would bring it up.

Anyway, he was small at 5 pounds 3 oz but very healthy! No NICU time, just some jaundice and feeding issues. Now he is a very healthy 23 pounder!!
