the usual Goodnight Moon, and also I've always loved The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton. I have an old copy from when I was little, and a newer copy I had with DD, it's funny to see the difference in printing.
Ava looooved all the mini Dr. Seuss board books when she was smaller. They're just condensed versions of the classics in a more-durable board book form. Also, Brown Bear Brown Bear, Goodnight Moon, Moo Baa La or anything by Matthew Van Fleet.
Tip: A ton of my books are from TJ Maxx and Marshalls. Kids books are expensive- especially the board books- and you can get them for way less at those stores.
My daughter's favorite book is Love You Forever by Robert Munsch. She picks that one so many times at bedtime, I can recite the words for each page with my eyes closed! She 'reads' it to her babydolls by looking at the picture and she has almost every word memorized.
My son has three favorites that he wants us to read every single night: The Little Blue Truck, The Little Engine That Could, and Silly Sally. I got him a whole bunch of goodies for Christmas and swapped out his favorites for the new ones, but the entire time he keeps asking for "choo choo" and "beep beep truck"
A lot of good ones have been mentioned, especially Good Night Moon and the Sandra Boynton books...we especially like the Belly Button Book. But I also must add Ten Fat Turkeys. It's always in the nightly rotation.
Indistructibles!! They're awesome because they're water proof, tear proof, basically baby proof. So they're great for baby because they can play with them without destroying them and ending up with little bits of cardboard in their mouth.

We got this book as a gift and it makes me cry every other time I read it. I hid it from my DS for awhile because I couldn't take it.... he found it stuffed under the couch though and we read it all the time now.
My favorite kid book is "Wherever You Are, My Love Will Find You" by Nancy Tillman. Warning - you WILL bawl your eyes out.
Charlie's favorite books to read with us are Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Peek a Who?, Russell the Sheep, Skippyjon Jones, and anything by Bill Peet. Skippyjon Jones in particular is so much fun to read aloud.
"I wanted you more than you'll ever know, so I sent love to follow wherever you go."

The Goodnight Train by June Sobel
My son is 9 now and still occasionally wants it read to him.
