Baby Names

My baby name is becoming popular!

Just read an article about names that are on the rise, and Kinsley is one of them. I purposefully didn't name my child Lily because it was too popular and we thought Kinsley would not become popular! Darn it!

  • I haven't heard that one before but it's lovely. I know a family with that as their last name but I really like it as a first name. I think should keep it! Nevermind anyone else.

  • It happens. DS is a Liam. Before he was born the only other Liams I knew about were Liam Neeson, the guy from Oasis, and the brother of a boy I went to HS school with. Now it's one of the most popular boys names.

I wouldn't worry about it.... at least now there is a chance of finding things with her name on it! Wink

  • Kinsley is trending upwards, that's for sure, but I don't think it's going to become the next Emma or Sofia, as it doesn't really have the same mass appeal.

If you want something similar sounding but less popular what about Keeley?  It has not made the top 1000 since 2002.

Agreed.  It's more trendy-sounding than classic, so I don't see it hitting the top 20 or even 50.  I could be wrong, though!

  • Consider that a sign and find a new name. Kinsley, Kinley, and the multiple spellings are on the rise. There are much nicer names out there.

  • That is such a pretty name! I too chose something off the beaten path! We wanted to call her Lucy, so we named her Lucia.

  • Sadly that happened to me also, I named my son Carson which I hadn't heard one person named that and now I hear girls that have it all the time! and I chose it for its no NN appeal and that it could never be a girl's name! Boy was I wrong :/

  • Girl K names especially ending in y are really trendy. Honestly, not sure how you didn't see this coming? Anyhow, it's her name, don't worry about it!
  • I know how you feel. 5 years ago when I named our little girl (Charlotte) her name was around #130 on the SSN list. Now in 2012 it will be a top 10 name (it was #27 in 2011) I couldnt believe it would jump that far, that fast. One reason I liked it was because it wasnt in the top100 :(

  • To those that can't see her ticker, her baby was born 4 months ago and has been named for quite awhile.

Anyway, this name is one of several that has skyrocketed in popularity.  I can understand that you didn't see it coming.  It was at 217 last year, which might or might not mean "popular" to you.  I was really into that sort of stuff with DS and his name still jumped 30 points, which feels like a lot, and will probably continue to rise.  I doubt it will crest 150 even, but still getting too popular for me.  I have loved it since I was 12 so I was going to use it, even if it was number one, but I liked that it was less common.  I dislike that it's getting more common.

  • Most of my favorite names are on the rise. I'm not going to let that stop me. Kinsley is a neat name. Go for it :)

Yep, you gotta be a bit smarter than "oh Lilly's in the top twenty, so that's out" if you want a unique name. Kinsley follows a few of the latest trends--K names, names that end in "ley" and names that are "ZOMG so cuuute". Even if you don't mean a ton of Kinsley's, she's going to get lumped right in with the Kinseys, Kinleys, Kaleys, Kaileys and a dozen others.

    Yup...THIS.

  • I know two Kinsley's under 1 and my friend who's pregnant was going to name her baby Kinsley if it was a girl. I was shocked at how popular its becoming.
