TTC after 35

HSG is scheduled for next week...

I am a little nervous about my upcoming procedure.  Has anyone else had one and willing to share their experience?  I have two teenage children, and have donated eggs anonymously, so I am hopeful that the test simply confirms that everything is A-OK.  My doctor is a fertility specialist (not just an OBGYN), so he does several of these a week.  Hopefully, that will be to my benefit.  We started at the clinic at UCONN last month, and have been very pleased so far.  Our main interest is trying to diagnose why we are not getting pregnant, but we are taking it as it comes.

All I know is, we are headed south for a week an a half in two weeks and a little R-n-R might be just the thing!

I had mine the beginning of this month.  It went well.  I had some pressure but it was not horrible at all.  I did take 2 Advil before the proceedure & took more when I got home.  Bring a maxi pad with you - they may only have a big sofa-like old fashioned one LOL

I did bleed for about 5 days - not spotting like they tell you.  It was like I got my period.

I went home & did laundry and watched tv after the procedure.  You just feel yucky & crampy for a day or two.

Others on here have not been as lucky as me.  I think a lot of it depends on your tolerance for pain & if you are the type that is afraid of drs or procedures.  I have a high tolerance & would watch the surgery while it is happening if I could (although I would probably pass out doing so LOL).  My Dr was very gentle & I had 2 nurses in there helping him.  The one even grabbed my hand & held it.  They talked me through it & I got to watch the dye go in.  It was really interesting to see.  I always though our tubes & ovaries were much bigger - boy was I wrong...

My tubes were clear.  Unfortunately no BFP this month.  I am having the worst period that I could remember right now - extremely heavy right from the first day. If I even have one heavy day during AF that is a lot for me. I am not sure if that is normal after an HSG or not.  GL

I agree with Pp. It was uncomfortable but not unbearable. Bring your own pad. The worst part was when the Dr was pushing the dye, I started having a muscle spasm. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for asking this question. I am scheduling my HSG today, as it is wonderful CD1. Sigh.  Anyhoo, best of luck to you next week.  I am taking the advice I read on many threads...2 advil before and after with my own pad.  I am driving myself, too. Didn't want the honey to take off for this, as he is battling the flu and has already taken a boat load of time off.

My doctor said Advil an hour before. He also gave me a script for doxycycline for the day before, the day of, and the day after.

Mine was very easy and I know a lot of women had similar experiences as mine so don't stress too much!  Hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones!

For me, the procedure was very quick.  I took advil before.  When the dye was pushed through I definitely felt some cramping but nothing more than normal menstrual cramps and it lasted about 30 seconds.  I had no cramping afterwards and no spotting/bleeding. What goes in (the dye) must come out so I did wear a pad afterwards but only for the first few hours.

Me: 37 DH: 37 TTC since Jan 2012. RE consult and initial testing done in Aug 2012: SA fine, AMH 1.1 & HSG clear - on way to IUI but got BFP on 9/10/2012. m/c 10/3/2012 at 6w5d. Mine was a bit painful, but there was a blockage that took a bit of pressure to get the fluid to flow through like they wanted. I took 4 Advil an hour before the procedure and that took the edge off. I also wore a pad afterwards, but just for the afternoon.

I hope you get good results!
